Just imagine at midnight miscreants knocking your door, and police helpline number is out of order. Phone is disconnected from last one month because of unpaid bill.
Goons of this area might have been b feeling more secure.

according to PC the so called civilians are a pain in the neck and he be better of without them anyway. better to have thugs around then civilian who bha bha all the time. thus the reason to dis armed the civilians then MHA AND PC ill only have to deal with thugs only. Six cops suspended for sleeping on duty, phone calls went unanswered

DOMBIVLI: Six policemen attached to the Manpada police station were suspended on Tuesday for sleeping on duty while locals were fighting off a gang of armed robbers early on Sunday.

The suspended cops are assistant inspector Y H Bagul and constables M H Nikam, K K Shirke, V K Thakur, L M Wagh and A R Waghere.

Thane police commissioner K P Raghuvanshi issued the suspension orders after an internal inquiry found the policemen guilty.

One of the locals, ex-Dombivli MLA Harishchandra Patil, had called up the Ramnagar police station to inform officials about the robbers but his calls were not answered.

Five of the citizens, including Patil and his two sons, had sustained injuries while trying to apprehend the robbers.

The courageous locals later went to the Manpada police station to lodge a complaint and were shocked to find the on-duty cops sleeping.

One of the citizens then shot a video of the sleeping cops using his cellphone.

The Ramnagar police later claimed that the citizens' calls went unanswered as their landline had been disconnected due to non-payment of bills.

Following media reports about the sleeping cops, Raghuvanshi ordered a departmental inquiry under the supervision of DCP (Zone 4) Shivaji Rathod. "On basis of the report submitted by Rathod, we have suspended the six policemen for sleeping on duty," said additional commissioner of police (Thane) Shantaram Waghmare.

Key investigating officers and police stations have become virtually out of reach for people in Punjab as the state police department has failed to get the corporate user group (CUG) mobile plan renewed for its officers and men for the past two months.

Mobile phones have become the only means of contacting officials with landline phones having been disconnected due to non-payment of bills for long periods. With no landline and official mobile phones functioning, only a favoured few who know the personal mobile phone numbers of officers or police personnel are able to contact them.

Police officials posted at the headquarters here said the force’s contract with Idea came to an end two months back. Since then, there had been confusion on whether to go in for another CUG plan or allow police personnel to choose their own mobile service provider. The second option came into being after all police personnel were sanctioned a mobile allowance.

Director General of Police Anil Kaushik has recently cleared a proposal to allow district and unit heads to decide on the mobile service provider for their men. A letter in that regard has been sent to all Senior Superintendents Police (SSPs). Zonal IGs have been asked to coordinate among districts under them to ensure smooth connectivity among their officials.

Sources said SSPs had, however, communicated to the police headquarters here that such a system would not be effective. They advocated a single CUG for the entire state. The number of police telephones had gone up from 6,400 to 20,000. This gives the force immense bargaining power to get the best deal from service providers. Sources said the lowest plan could be up to Rs 80 per month.

Officers said a single CUG would ensure low bills, as most calls within the group would be free or subsidised. Sources said, the earlier contract with Idea had been cancelled with the aim of getting a better CUG deal for the entire force.

we have to look at the plight of the cops too.during sixties the population in my town was 50,000 and now it is 5 lacs.the number of cops where hundred then and now.
give them a good salary,8hrs shift job,increase the number of cops/station,i think they will also fare well as the rest of the departments.

Robberies: Panicky petrol dealers write to DGP

Perturbed over six incidents of looting in various petrol filling stations between Ludhiana and Phagwara in the past 24 hours, the Punjab Petroleum Dealers Association has written to the Director-General of Police (DGP) to adopt strict measures to arrest the accused else they would be forced to shut filling stations at night.

Ashok Sachdeva, general secretary of the association, said it was disturbing that six petrol stations had been targeted between Ludhiana and Phagwara in the past 24 hours and about Rs 2 lakh was robbed.

“Such incidents used to take place during the years of militancy. Now again some anti-social elements have started attacking filling stations on the outskirts. If these incidents are not controlled immediately, we will be forced to shut the stations during night hours, which will cause inconvenience to commuters,” he said.

In a letter to the state DGP and the Home Secretary, the association president JP Khanna said 34 petrol stations had already been targeted in the last six months. Also, the employees of the outlets were attacked. The employees engaged at the stations were migrant labourers who were performing duty against a threat to their life.

“Special permission must be given by the respective District Magistrates to sanction arms licences to petrol dealers who applied. The licenced weapon will boost the morale of the employees and equip them to face attackers,” he added.



Criminals have a field day, says Amarinder

Chandigarh: PCC chief Capt Amarinder Singh on Wednesday expressed concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in Punjab. He said Punjab roads were no longer safe and people were scared to move out, particularly during late hours as criminals were having a field day, looting and robbing anybody at their own discretion. Quoting newspapers reports, he said about 30 incidents of serious crimes were reported during the past 48 hours across the state which included a series of thefts, robberies and murders. These were only those which had been reported and registered by the police as there were several other incidents where police either failed to or preferred not to take any cognisance, he claimed. — TNS
