Mizo Bowie
Having received the bowie in a wooden box and with mouth dribbling with saliva, no, not a case of rabies or mad dog. Just love getting prissy from Johna.
The Mizo Bowie was well balanced with weight heavy on the tip side so that was good. Weighted around ½ kg well balanced.
Handle was made of two piece of wood which was riveted by two reverts, The leather sheath was made from a thin leather.
I decided to give the Mizo bowie a going over to see how it would perform in minor daily tasks. Without sharpening it but as it came out of the box.
Test
My first test would have been to leave the blade buried in the ground for a week to check the metal condition. However this test was bypassed as the metal quilt was well known.
Second test was to drive the blade into my wife’s car door, but being a little gutless it was also passed over and instead put the blade through tin sheet, the blade went through easy.
I would like to do a cutting test on 1inch hemp rope swinging but did not have any rope handy, so it was passed over.
Chopping was next in line again it was no problem.
Stuck the knife into a piece of wood without any problem.
There was no damage to the blade or jarring on the hand as the blade was struck into wood or tin.
Things which may improve the Mizo Bowie;
The etching on the blade needs to be done better.
The blade was not hollow grounded which was a shame as it would be looking very sexy if it was.
The wooded handle with rivets would give little blister in prolonged use.
Sheath would do with a good stiff leather reverted and double stitched, with thick leather for the belt lop.
A blood line/grove on the blade would be good.
Overall view
I would buy this knife for field work, and believe that it would be a good investment, as the length and the width does suit to work in the field. It would need to be kept well greased or oiled to prevent rust. The sheath would need leather oil/polish. This is no problem and the knife is well worth the money. For the purpose it was made for.
Well done Mizo Bowie.

He gets the knives made from a local blacksmith and the sheaths from Kanpur, from what I understand.BJL wrote:Wait... Jonah, you make those?
Jonah would obviously be the right man to answer this question.

Good stuff. I love when the local blacksmith gets business instead of some soulless corporation.
Edit-
Just read the whole thread from the beginning, quite the titillating read Good job producing those knives Jonah.

Re: An Original Mizo Bowie
Thanks guys,
Just to get the facts straightened out, the supplier from kanpur backed out after supplying me a very beautiful specimen. His excuse was that his was an export oriented unit and couldnt engage in local supply. The sheath is now made locally untill I can find another supplier.
