advice on pricing

hi gentlemen,
i am quite interested in a .32/.380 cal pistol from beretta 82mod onwards, can anybody advice me on a good price. there was one in j biswas & co. but he is quoting 15lacs.

for 15L, seller market or not, only a total silly billy would buy it.

for its silly price for silly people.

its like this, once upon a long time a go, in the kingdom of Napel. strange mountian men went, they had there own kit. price were less then, now the story goes, then came the japs, with lots of lolly, price went up. so the moral of the story is, if we pay the price asked however silly, then we are asking to be ripped off. if no one pays then after sometime price will come down. lets us not forget its the buyers market not the sellers market.

does any one want a kidney? 13L only british made one.

seriously, j biswas & co, of kolkota, still has a silver coloured mod84 in .32cal beretta, and till last week it was 15lacs.
can anybody please advice me on a better pricing or a place where i might get one legally.

i don't have much idea about where to get one cheaper legal in india. but the price is ripoff by any standard. some may say that we should not agrue with the sellers asking price. i say what about the coustormers right to fair deal?

for 15L i rather contrubute to a politican fund and get an import licence. still cheaper.

15L ?? rich man folly or a poor mans ruin!

15Lacs is something close to criminal activity. Anyone paying that much, in my eyes, is abbeting crime

Hate to say this but its probably your tribal appearance that encouraged the rapacious geezers to quote the insane price. It happens regularly.

An 'Indian' looking person would probably get a lower quote...though by no means a reasonable one.

No offense to anyone and no racist tone either.... just ground facts. Please everybody, don't misconstrue.

Anyway, can't say much about where to get reasonable pricing- depends on your luck. This is India. Guys here at IFG may help in making inquiries in their respective places.

Denong, from what I have gathered after hearing the kind of (handgun) prices members get quoted from time to time - models with high capacity magazines go for much much higher prices in India. So one option could be, buy a popular model with a lower cap magazine and then try and get someone to bring back a high cap magazine for you from overseas. Of course this would only be possible with current and/ or popular models - while magazines can be sourced overseas for less well known/ outdated models, it might be a tad tougher...

Dealers DO quote prices based on what THEY perceive as your capacity/ willingness to pay! Since there is NO fixed MRP on these things, the dealer will evaluate the person sitting in front of him and show him models and quote prices based on his own perception of the customer (as mentioned by me above). I'm sorry to say but most dealers, if given half a chance would have NO qualms in palming off some poor condition junk which may very well be dangerous, if they think that you wouldn't know the difference...

My own advice would be:

1. Don't be in a hurry to close a deal
2. Look around and evaluate the guns based on condition and NOT brand name. A good condition gun from a less popular brand would be supremely preferable to a "known brand" gun in piss poor condition.
3. Insist on the dealer fully stripping the pistol in front of you and carefully examine ALL parts for improvised replacement parts/ condition/ repairs etc.
4. Guns CAN and ARE often reblued locally - you could possibly make out if this has been done, but maybe not always. So don't judge the piece on the condition of the bluing alone.
5. Quite a few dealers will try and hide pitting/ rust etc. by getting a gun nickel plated - examine such pistols especially carefully.
6. While examining the inside of a barrel, make sure you have it wiped clean of ALL traces of oil. A nice dose of gun oil in the barrel can hide minor pitting and make such barrels look nice and shiny inside.
7. If you have a friend who knows his guns, do take him along. This is after all not a cheap investment you are going to make.

Once again, DON'T rush into anything!
