Custom Mauser (Pics)

Post by herb » Sun Mar 12, 2017 11:19 pm

I have an opportunity to buy a custom 98 Mauser in .338 Win Magnum. If I can swing it at the right price, it will be a nice acquisition.

Barrel is marked in scroll - D. J. Swann Maker .338 Win Magnum
Fully engraved including scope rings and barrel swing band, gold inlays.
Floor plate is fully engraved with gold inlay of a water buffalo head
Wood is higher grade walnut than what is normally seen.
Bolt has a white inlay, probably ivory.

A wonderful piece of jewel. Hope you manage to swing the deal Herb. How ever, a rifle such as this bauty without Express Iron Sights looks a bit naked to my eyes, Maybe I am old fashioned.

Nice one, Herb! Almost too nice to be dragging through the brush, though.

Wow Herb,
What a jewel!
I have to agree with Two Rivers that it is way too nice to drag through the woods. :)

thats one of the best that i have ever got to see, its an absolute beauty to perfection, Its a jewel man. I agree, if i ever had anything like, I dont think I would have will to expose it to sun and woods of africa. But those who can afford it I am sure would have many of those lying around ;)

I am also a fan of Iron sights but can understand why on guns that may be carried a lot, sights, ribs etc are omitted to reduce weight. I would absolutely want them on a gun .375 & larger.

Gorgeous, drool-worthy rifle, herb!

It is quite amazing the way you unearth such treasures on a regular basis! :D

Good luck with the acquisition! (y)
