Legal Standing regarding Rifle Scopes

Post by aadhaulya » Mon Nov 03, 2014 7:32 pm

Hi All,
I am a little scared to ask this question as my last post was deleted and got a warning for asking questions about 'Silencers', as I could not find any details regarding the same in the Arms Acts and rules'.
Keeping my fingers crossed I want to know that as per my understanding from this forum, the rifle scope is a restricted item and can be imported if it is not mounted on a rifle nor can it be imported un-mounted along with a rifle.
Therefore, once it is in India can it be mounted on a rifle and carried about legally?
Would appreciate an early response, as I plan to do do some modifications today on my 30.06 rifle to mount the scope that have already got.

Regards

100% legit to own a scope even without license, for example on ARF's. Go ahead, get one and mount on the rifle.

Thanks Vikram.
The post was quite informative. Today I went to the LA to get my two additional weapons endorsed on the License and took my rifle with the scope mounted. The person who accepts the application believed that the scopes are not allowed but the in-charge of the LA confirmed that scopes are allowed and accepted my application.

Dear kaushaltomar,

I do not know the legalities involved but my Mother brought back two scopes in her checked in baggage coming back from Italy. She did not face any problem.

Hi All,

Has anyone recently carried a rifle scope in flight from Bangkok to India in flight ? Please share your experience. I am in Bangkok currently and planning to carry a 3*9*40EG Bushnell.

Thanks

I believe you won't face any problem. As riflescopes are restricted but not prohibited. Tell the customs to check the restricted items list and be confident about your stand.
