Re: catastrophic caliber alteration
Friends during my visit to a licensed dealer to deposit my arms for the elections, i found that a gentleman's representative had come with a some what odd revolver, with a huge bore ( in excess of .455 or more) as my humble judgement goes. I handled the weapon and to my disbelief, i found that the chambers had sleeves of .32 tight fitted and the barrel looked like a cannon .In my opinion , If that person fired, the rounds will just pass through the tube (barrel) without any contact. I think he has been duped and that weapon has been sold to him.

Such alterations are often seen done to the guns that are generally used for film shooting purposes as it becomes easier to get/make blanks from common calibers. All that is required is a flash and maybe little smoke out of the barrel and the purpose is served.

Re: catastrophic caliber alteration
There are several Webley .455 owners in the USA who indulge in this practice. IFG members from the USA will be able to throw more light on the subject.
Rp.
best,Simply put, it is a testament to the sturdiness of Webley service revolvers, but can hardly be considered either safe or advisable!

It's always better to have a gun and not need it than need a gun and not have it !

Re: catastrophic caliber alteration
You’re looking at the largest revolver in the world – The Pfeifer Zeliska .600 Nitro Express Zeliska revolver is an Austrian single-action revolver produced by Pfeifer firearms. It is the largest handgun in the world, weighing in at 6.001 kilograms (13.23 pounds) and having a length of 55 cm (21.65 inches). The cylinder section alone weighs 2.041 kg (4.5 pounds).MoA wrote:That looks like .45/70 BFG. I believe they are a hoot to shoot.
The Zeliska is also the most powerful handgun in the world, producing a muzzle energy of over 6 kilojoules (4425 pound-force foot). The weight of the gun helps control the recoil, making controlled shooting possible. The capacity of a Zeliska is five .600 Nitro Express or .458 Win Mag rounds. The Zeliska fires a .600 Nitro Express slug at 462m/s (1,515.75 ft/s). The cost of a Zeliska revolver is over $16,000. Each .600 Nitro Express round costs $40, making this gun very expensive to fire.
Loading is accomplished through a loading gate located on the right of the cylinder, similar to the Colt Single Action Army
Added features to the gun include gold-plated hammer, cylinder pivot, action, and the gold-filled inscription on the gun indicating the company’s address.
