Guess this is why the government has been pressing for a census of licenses. Collate all the info and revoke them in one shot.

With a sprinkling of 9mm pistols, 303's and 410's.

What is disturbing is that there were several .30 Tokarev ...well Chinese M20 pistols and misc .32 pistols listed as prohibited bore in the local notifications.

Why these orders-were they PB firearms as evident in the govt orders-that means that the govt is maintaining some sort of a database on all licences be they local or all india

i agree that the majority of recalled were pb s in .30 M1 CARBINES and few as you mentioned 9mm and .410.

what i believe is the situation on the one recalled is that:

the babus do not know the difference between pb and npb is the most logical deduction.

some of the licence were obtained per 2007 which were of doubtful nature to say the least. ( since last few years the state issues the authority individual licences, for the DC to stamp, the DC now, can not issue licences on its own authority to issue the licences) however time passes and government employees get moved out and the new ones are not aware of the current situation so they issue licence when they are not supposed to.

Regardless, one can expect more interference from the MHA within all the states, matter of time only.

Last month a person purchased a M1 Carbine ( Semi Auto and not the converted one) from an army officer , who was posted in Orissa and had an All India License. That M1 was endorsed as an Np Bore weapon. The purchasing gentleman knowing all the facts and legal realities bought that rifle for 225k and has become an owner of that rifle. He also purchased a .22 repeater ( Austrian ) in the month of January ( same as NP Bore ) for 200k . I tried to convince him in not to go for Semi but instead buy himself a M1 Garand and a 22 Brno . But the craze of owning a Automatic weapon overshadowed everything. And the biggest surprise is that the All India license has been procured from J&K.

The MHA order is talking about prohibited arms. Were these licenses for prohibited arms or for prohibited bore arms?

But the craze of owning a Automatic weapon overshadowed everything. And the biggest surprise is that the All India license has been procured from J&K.

I do not think the matter has anything to do with "craze" rather change is a neccessasity with changing times. It is really unfornutate that people instead of fighting to make the Arms Act in confirmity with changing times and mordernisation, are instead trying to take "shortcuts" etc. This gives MHA further excuses to prevent "misuse" and "tighten" the law.

Even more galling is that almost all the folks whose licenses have been revoked are serving and retired senior officers (IAS, IPS, Army, State service) Politicians and people connected to heavy weights.... These are indiscretions of the very people supposed to be upholding the law, while we the general public bear the brunt of the penalties due.

What the hell is wrong with this country.

....also has anybody wondered what the whole exercise achieved in terms of L&O and oh humanity!! ...civil society at large? ...other than the center showing a puny state who is boss.
