COMING TO INDIA...

Post by thrillseeker420 » Mon Jan 03, 2011 11:01 am

Hey there everyone. I just registered to this site and would like to give everyone a "how's it going?" I live in Canada but I love India since my family is there and keep coming back. I have been in school so the last time I came was in 2006 and I was still about 17. I shot off a lot of guns (real and air) and found a new thrill next to skydiving. I am heading back next month and was deciding to buy one to keep at my house in India. I was wondering about the prices (approx).

How much does a 9mm pistol cost? And what are some other handguns? Where can I buy these from? Will I need a license or do I have to take my uncle or cousin to come with me? (I am in Ludhiana district...in Khanna). Thank you.

Hi Thrillseeker!
Welcome to IFG. It's nice to see a fellow skydiver here.

You will soon understand that skydiving is much cheaper and easier to participate in than being a firearm owner in India.
I recommend you to read the Legal Eagle section in this forum to understand the sad reality and complexities of gun ownership in India.

In India, firearms are classified into two types. Prohibited Bore and Non-Prohibited Bore.
Civilians are allowed to own only Non-Prohibited bore weapons (common types being 0.22 and 0.32 caliber)
Even though it is theoretically possible and relatively easier to obtain non-prohibited bore weapon licenses, it is still considerably tough with the police restricting gun licenses to civilians in many parts of the country.

The 9mm bore weapon you are interested in is a Prohibited bore in India and hence it's next to impossible to obtain a license for one.

I hope I made some sense. Like I said, the Legal Eagle section in this forum will clear all your doubts.

Cheers!!

First off, I would like to say thanks for the reply. Out of 63 people, I'm sure someone could have helped me out but was too lazy to even give a shit. So thanks for helping me out brother.

As for the issue, the 9 mill was just something I was wondering about. It doesn't have to be that. I would love to shoot off a 22 or even a .32 caliber. I will check out the legal section and read over. Thanks again for the help nvnrjn.

I remember a couple years ago when I was like you too without knowing the ground realities in India about gun laws.
At that time, by luck I stumbled upon this forum which made things clear for me. I'm just glad I was able to help you out. I'm sure most of the 63 viewers must have intended to write a reply but was a bit too busy.
Most of us here are very friendly. So keep coming back and we hope you spread the word about IFG.
Welcome again bro.

It's really sad to hear such a comment towards fellow IFG'ns . First grow up mentally and then think of acquiring a weapon. I am sure now you will have lot more replies than expected.

You skipped/avoided reading the many posts on Indian handgun laws and available calibers in the various sections on this site before you posted. Were you were looking for shortcuts and quick answers without having to work hard yourself.

And you call US lazy as shit!!! What a way to go! What and introduction!

Hi thrillseeker420,
The fact that the information you seek may already be available on this forum, may have something to do with your questions not being answered. Usually new members tend to have the same questions and so it becomes difficult to address the same questions again and again. Complaining and calling members "lazy" may not be the best way to make friends here. :(

Many of us have gotten the information available here with difficulty prior to the formation of IFG, you could read through the legal section and absorb what ever is necessary to you. I can understand your frustration, but being rude is not the attitude that is encouraged here.

Having said that welcome to IFG, there is a wealth of information available here, we hope that you can contribute to it as much as gain from it. :) :)
Regards,
Anand

Anand has put it very nicely, nothing more can be said. A similar query was answered and discussed recently. Use the search option and I am sure you will find what you are looking for.

Welcome to IFG.

Okay, I see in your country. The word "shit" is the biggest swear word out there. I'm guessing even everyday tv shows and movies are rated R in India or what? It is funny how I got a warning for using the word "shit". That actually makes me laugh. I have been on 20-30 other forums for help on various things such as car tech support, installation, etc. and even after all the swearing...I get NOTHING. This is the first forum I get a warning...and on top of all that, it's because I used the word SHIT. What a joke. LITERALLY. Made me laugh. It is not like there are little kids on this site anyway. Thats my back up that it is you that needs to grow up a little. And hey grewal, 'grow up mentally'? are you kidding me? lol Good comeback kiddo. Maybe I should have looked through the post but I needed an answer asap and I really didn't know how to use this site. But honestly, maybe somebody from outside of India is just not welcome on this site? Because we speak differently? I mean, the site is about guns for gods sake...over a 4-letter word that IS NOT '****' I get a warning? What a joke. Maybe I'm not welcome here. Farewell now.

Dear Bro,
We see warning signs plastered all over when we go about our daily lives. They are on roads, hospitals, cigarettes, airports etc and somehow we learn to deal with them. Please don't get upset about the warning but heed it because this site is rich with information on weapons and some great people have taken the trouble to put all this together. Doesn't cost you and me a dime to respect their codes and have a great time here. I hope what I have posted is not viewed with disdain. Good luck always.

Your words speak of the way you have been brought up, I am sorry for those who might have spend a lot of time and money to make you a "so called educated human being"

thrillseeker420, I would suggest you to stay little bit longer this time in India, without turning back to your roots, at some point of time, that may be difficult for to you to achieve in live what you really can.

best wishes

:agree: with you Mr. Grewal
Hi, Thrillseeker420 i am living in Canada for last 20 years i never use this kind of word in my personal life and your are useing on this site if you dont have a respect for other member then you are not welcome on this site, first you have to learn how to respect , then ask something.you are lucky you got only warning from my point of view you should be blocked. think twice before you open your mouth.

I'm afraid that I have to agree with grewal and Baljit; it does appear that "mommy" and "daddy" have wasted their money by spending it on your education.

The fact of the matter is that; regardless of the country we are in, when in polite society, we don't swear.

1. It doesn't matter what other forums do, we don't swear here, even though there is plenty of provocation.
2. The reason, no one answered your first post is that it was obvious that you were too lazy to ready any posts before you posted your question. Now its obvious that you didn't read the code of conduct either.
3. Do you often go into someone's house, ignore their rules and when made aware about the rules, do you then complain about it? Way to make friends and influence people, bud.
4. A piece of advice: it appears that you are going to be looking for a job soon, don't swear during your job interview. :)
5. If you think too many people are "raining on your parade" here, wait till you get out into the real world. Son, you are 21 now and not a child anymore. No one is going to cut you any slack.

So bud, either you suffer from serious reading comprehension problems or else you are way to lazy to look up information that is readily available on this site.
