Gentlemen,

Is anyone aware of the scores required to be in top 20 in Trap in India? The reason being ofcourse to own a quality shotgun

No such thing. The first 20 get the renowned shot certificate.

Any idea what scores would normally get you in top 20? Just out of curiousity.
I remember Steyrshot, on the old board,mentioning some scores of 10m shooting for qualifying for nationals

Yes, you would need to get a certain score at the pre-national (GVM) to qualify for the nationals. There is also a cut-off score at the nationals. Fall below it and it's back to GVM or certain recognised comps to get your qualification back.

Don't have these scores at hand but will try and get them for you. Will also try and find out what the top 20 scored last year.

Yet to get the top 20 scores for 2005 but herewith the minimum qualifying scores for GVM and NSCC.

Note: NR means match is shot in accordance with National Rules (basically fewer number of shots) and ISSF means match is shot in accordance with International Shooting Sport Federation rules.

GVM

Trap / Skeet : 30/50 NR

Double Trap : 28/50 NR

NSCC

Trap / Skeet : 33/50 NR and 90/125 ISSF

Double Trap : 30/50 NR and 100/150 ISSF

To qualify for a renowned shot certificate you have to shoot in the ISSF or what is also known as the Open category.

At the top but lower down (even within the top 20) the scores are pretty average. Not the shooters fault to some extent. More to do with the lack of practice due to the cost and availability of ammo.

Before Rathore won the Olympic silver there were probably 20 to 30 who would compete, so even if you did averagely well you were in striking distance of a renowned shot certificate. Now, however, the field has grown to 70 or 80 shooters. Nowhere near the hundreds who shoot other disciplines, so your chances are still good, provided you learn the basics well and practice correctly.
