Pre-requisite for taking part in the Nationals in Jaipur

Post by Viky » Thu Oct 25, 2007 1:29 pm

Hi,

I want to send my 13 year old son for the Nationals but was infromed that since he could not take part in the GV Mavlankar championship, he is not eleigble for the Nationals.. He has got a Gold at the 33d Tamil Nadu State Shooting Championship for the 10m open sight air rifle event. Is he eligible for taking part in the Nationals in the peep sight event (since there is no open sight event) ?

Thanks,

Viky

Viky,

If his scores were exceptional (90+ %), your association may have had some grounds to ask NRAI for a wild card entry (not sure if there are wild card entries now).

Also, the fact that he did not shoot in the peep sight category could make it a little more difficult.

Why don't you talk to the President or Secretary of your association. The GVM comp just started yesterday and if the secretary of your association can arrange for your son to participate at the very last minute, then he could participate in the nationals if he gets the MQS. This years GVM is at Agra.

It all seems highly unlikely but you could try.

Yes, getting an MQS at the GVM (pre-nationals) is compulsory if one wants to shoot in the nationals.

Also, please note that one is only permitted to participate in those events at the Nationals for which one has qualified for at the pre-nationals.

The only way to shoot at NSCC is through GVM but the NRAI does have 4 wildcard entries in all events so you could try if his scores are exceptional as there is a lot of politics involved there. You have made the mistake once so don't let it happen again as all the information is there on the NRAI website. Had I not checked on the net, my son would have missed out on the trials 3 & 4 for Trap shooting for selection of team for the Asian shooting championships to be held in Kuwait in Dec. as he had already missed out trials 1 & 2. His was a wild card entry for the trials as he had come 9th in the last NSCC with a score of 83/125 and only the top six are called for the trials.
Best.
