Abhijeet,

I guess all "Magnums" which are considered "armour piercing" also fall under the PB category in India...please correct me if I am wrong..

Cheers!

The power of the cartridge has no bearing on PB/ NPB classification. Please see first post on this thread.

Cheers!

Thousand pardons for going off the topic a wee bit. This incident happened when I went for the renewal of my Arms license almost a decade ago. A Senior Police officer in arms dept. Mumbai wondered why this particular caliber was not HIGHLY prohibited because it looked much bigger then the most powerful cartridge in the world "The 303". The rifle and the cartridge in question was a 375 H&H.

Please read this http://indiansforguns.com/viewtopic.php ... 80&start=0
The Highest Calliber indian civilian Can buy under NPB licence.
As per Arms Act 1959/ Arms Rules 1962 there is no highest or lowest caliber. As a thumb rule, anything that is not PB is NPB. PB and NPB has nothing to do with ballistic properties of cartridge. PB and NPB was created during Lord Curzon's time so that in event of mutiny like 1857 again, the native soldiers and civillians cannot use each others ammunition because of different cartridge sizes. To understand details of PB and NPB please read this http://indiansforguns.com/viewtopic.php ... 43#p115943
Are the ammunation of 38 Special and 357 magnum revelover are easily available in India.
These cartridges are available but costly. Arms dealers would be in better position to answer this. Please check the arms dealer directory on this website and contact them.

Look out with Gun Houses. Many have them for sale from time to time.
Top-GUN wrote:what is the PRICE ???
S&W and Colt .357 revolvers are priced aorund 12-13 lacs.

No. A license valid to purchase NPB revolver will do.

But remember .357 mag ammo are very difficult to come by in India.

top gun,
.357's are among the most expensive revolvers in India, they could fetch
anywhere around 15-20 lacs + are really hard to come by and the ammo ain't cheep
either, but with .357's you have an option of loading it with .38 spl ammo.

in a budget of around 3-5 lacs you can go far a decent Webley&Scott B-series,
i have one myself.they are good, sturdy and reliable revolvers and maybe if you are lucky
a S&W model 31.( i mean real lucky).
there are a few S&W clones available for that budget as well.

cheers

Dear Mr singh ,

but there was a topic with WEBLEY and SCOTT ...vs IOF

it seems IOF is much reliable than Webley guns !!

enlighten me abt that

in my line of service ....i knew some SARDARJI ...who had a WEBLEY at HOME ...he once said me " that webley guns are OLD guns ...but the FIRING SPRING can betray you at time of need"

plzzz enlighten me regarding these above said

IOF revolvers are also copy of webley. For all practical purposes for "common" citizens, the IOF revolvers or pistols are good enough, unless they are willing to spend extortionate amounts of money. IOF revolvers sometimes may have some quality issues but they can be fixed by a knowledgeable gunsmith. Total cost of ownership including gunsmith charges for IOF handgun is less than the cost of owning other old "imported" stuff circulating in the market.

Going by the theme of your questions, it seems you are interested in handgun with sufficient velocity or penetrative power. The next best thing to .357 magnum in the Indian scenario can be pistols firing the 7.62x25 mm tokarev cartridge. You can read about it at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/7.62x25mm_Tokarev

sometimes one gets tired of rewriting the same things 100 times. when most of the info is already given in the forum. one should take a little time to go through the revelent sections and dig out the gold from the dust.
