Indians For Guns

I have been following this forum for quite sometime now... finally joined it.

I had applied for an Arms Licence back in 2006 and I was granted the same to carry arms within the State of Andhra Pradesh. However I could not follow up due to my travel abroad and the 'time barred'. I am re-applying for an arms Licence and I have procured the application form. I have few questions with regards to this :

• 1. I want an ALL-INDIA Licence. How difficult it is to get one? and Why?

• 2. My Uncle has Pistol which he wants to give me. I was told, however that getting a Licence for a Pistol is very difficult. Is it true? Why?

• 3. Which is the right door to knock for realizing above two Needs?

It would be very helpful if the Forum could guide me.

1. I want an ALL-INDIA Licence. How difficult it is to get one? and Why?

First get license for local area validity like district or State. Once you get it apply for extension of area validity to all india. Answer to the "why" part is lengthy and complex. In order to understand the "why" in detail you need to first fully understand Arms Act 1959 and Arms Rules 1962 and the tricks and loopholes enacted within them to suit the babus only.

But if for some reason you want to straight away apply for all india validity and are prepared to fight it in High Court then you may directly apply for all india.

2. My Uncle has Pistol which he wants to give me. I was told, however that getting a Licence for a Pistol is very difficult. Is it true? Why?

It depends on how you chase your application and how difficult you percieve the chase. If you are a legal heir, you may apply under family heirloom category.

3. Which is the right door to knock for realizing above two Needs?

First make an application for arms license. If denied approach High Court. There are plenty of High Court judgements in favour. You may read some of those judgements at:
