could you tell me- or am i right in thinking that(9x18) 9mm Makarov would be NPB?

as its not 9x19 =9mm Parabellum = 9mm Luger.(PB)

9mm Makarov pistols are issued to pilots of Soviet origin fighter aircraft, I believe.

If you are a resident of Mumbai city, it could mean trouble. Some Mumbai police officers from Arms Dept. have a unique and a simple way of finding out if a particular bore is prohibited. They drop a 9mm service round in the chamber of a pistol when in doubt. If it goes in even with slight resistance, it's a PB. And no arguments. They also try to fit the bullet in from muzzle end to check if it's PB. I have silently witnessed this whole operation once. Many a 38 super pistols have failed the NPB tests here. Heh....heh....

It is 'chamber and fire' and not just 'chamber'

9mm Makarov pistols or also known as Makarov PM is not only for air force but used by the russikys army and still used by some ex eastern bloc countries. Makarov are also chambered for 9mmx19 para and i think also lugger. also comes in .380APC, and 9x18 sport version

few years ago i had the chance to fire one Makarov PM, found it to be good piece of kit.

i find it strange the way Mumbai police text for NPB. only needs one incident for barrel blowing in thir face to make them use different method. (hope it never happens. barrel blowing in their face that is.) or better someone should tell then to join IFG to get the good news on best way to check cal.

Under the law as applied to Prohibited Arms even pepper spray, Mace etc would constitute prohibited arms.

In Delhi 45 pistols are treated as P Bore firearms unlike Bombay where they are entered on NPB Licences.

I have no clue if these orders have been ammended....but going by this order 45 pistols firing rimless cartridges should be P. Bore

its strange how one state bans it and another does not.
since a central government order should cannot be ignored, right?

I’m moving a query, which I had posted earlier in my intro to a relevant thread here. Couple of members have already replied to my earlier post.
I owned a .30 carbine, which we had to later give up since it was said to be PB (Some light on this from the experts is most welcome since no one could give me proper answers to this. Some said it is possible to get a license for the same while the others say it's PB).

It does not matter if the gun came under pb, if you have the right explaination you could have applied for a pb license.

The .30 M1 Carbine could have been retained if it was converted to a single shot repeater. The caliber itself is NP but the problems arise due to the fact that it is a semi-auto.

Was your weapon on an Exemption Certificate or a proper license?

Exemption certificate. The rifle was gifted to my dad by my uncle from the army.

May I ask what made you surrender it? Once it has been entered on an EC you shouldn't have any problems.

Once my father passed away, I had taken it to the police station to transfer to my name and I was told that it was not possible and that the gun had to be surrendered. I approached higher officials who were related to me and they all said the same thing.
