To get your gun, looks like you obey what customs demand. And many of us will do the same and customs continue to demand, and you guys will be an example for them. Kindly do a bit of homework PLEASE!!!

Working copy may help many.
============
Basic Custom Duty = 12.5% --- now 0%
Central Vat ( CV ) = 16% ---- now 0%
Spl. Additional Duty = 4% ---- now 0%
=====================================
TOTAL DUTY: NIL

Chapters 90 to 96
90.1. Customs duty and CV duty have been exempted on air guns of 0.177 calibre (air rifles and air pistols) of Chapter 93.

Consequently, these goods are also exempted from 4%
special additional duty of customs (S.No. 582 of notification No. 21/2002-Customs, inserted vide notification No.21/2008-Customs, refers).

Hi Deepak,

Can you give the break up of charges you paid? There are members from Mumbai who import .177 and are quite familiar with the process. I thought its Rs.1800 Octrai. Pretty strange, 4k! thats some money bud. Check out with mumbai members Fantumfan aka Manish. He surely will help you out.

Cheers
Biren

Hi T20, I had already furnished the relevant notifications pertaining to the aspects mentioned by you. I was looking for an exemption notification for Octroi if there was any. Seems like there is none.
Octroi is charged by the carrier before releasing the package, not by customs.

Hey Biren,
Sorry, I should have mentioned the breakup :
1779/- as Octroi
1750/-
300/- as Other charges (dont know what this is for)
211/- service tax

This Octroi to my knowledge should because of the product being delivered within Mumbai city limits.

Is it not applicable for other cities?

As per my research
"As of 2008, octroi is levied in Ethiopia and in only one state of India, (Maharashtra). Maharashtra will abolish octroi soon."

Wow, good work vmanicks!
I'm not feeling bad for the levy as long as it is going in govt treasury. Is this applicable on import of hand pumps for PCP's?

Last time I got a PCP hand pump - Venturi G4 was along with the Walther Dominator. However there was no Octroi as the shipment was for Tamil Nadu.

Today somebody told me that there are locally made hand pumps available for 8K, is it worth going in for them?

Also would anybody know where in mumbai would I get an adapter where one side fits a universal scuba tank and the other Foster 12 FS, the same used for maurader etc.

Indicative cost would be very helpful too.

This is news.

But I would still suggest going for a Scuba tank rather than a Indian made hand pump.
