Faisal1 please go through the new proposed Arms rules. If it goes through then .22 Air Rifles DO require a license

I got mine at a price of Rs.6600.00 a month and a half back from http://www.kovibazaar.com and although heavy, it has shown great accuracy at 30-40 yards targets.

The warning from Big Daddy and Basu and others on the Indian gun law mandating a license for the use of a 0.22 mm caliber AR/Air gun is not to be taken lightly. Ms. Menaka Gandhi is still at her old seat and the BJP Members of the Indian Parliament may well pass the new arms act bill to please her. The bill brings the 0.22 mm bore air guns and pellets under the category of licensed weaponry. The Delhi based arms dealers have stopped stocking 0.22 bore air gun items.

Shyamalabu, its been almost a year you are playing with an underlever AK550, do you recommend this gun to someone who is interested in having a good underlever? I have a .22 NX100 Scorpius but now need an .177 and want an underlever.

As far as under lever .177 AR is concerned, then you can consider about diana 460. It is available with kiehberg and 10kya.

Dear Sanjip,
The answer to your post (read nearly after one full year : Shyamalabu, its been almost a year you are playing with an underlever AK550, do you recommend this gun to someone who is interested in having a good underlever? I have a .22 NX100 Scorpius but now need an .177 and want an underlever.) is under:

The AK550 underlever (Kovibazaar is yet to provide me with the manufacturer's full address and phone numbers at Calcutta) after its 12 months continuous use, has not yet loosened up its spring to allow an easier cocking. But now a new problem has cropped up. The barrel top circular lever for plugging in pellets, throws out oil wisp and air every second time the rifle is fired! The local gun dealers at Delhi are asking an exorbitant price to mend this and worse is that I have had to pay much more in bribes than the Fee of Rs.5000.00 to obtain a license for this 0.22 AR.

I had a talk on phone with one of the SDB partners who is also a professional accountant like me (an ICWA Fellow Member turned a gunsmith and gun designer!!! WOW!! Calcutta breeds the extra ordinaries!), and he informed me that a newly designed and lightweight 0.177 break barrel output of the SDB stable called the GenNex is the current show stopper and easier to manage for +60 people like me.

incidentally I have had a telephone talk with the proprietor of the New Light Armory Jodhpur who has informed me that he has re-started to manufacture the lightweight under-lever (I had one of 0.22 bore twenty years back that was a deadly accurate carried around piece) using the 0.177 caliber bore and improved imported Turkish spring and non leather piston gasket, which he is selling for about Rs.6000.00 a piece and he is sdlling on 10% advanced bookings to dealers and direct customers with 15 days delivery time.

Mr. Basu the stalwart had warned me of the inherent weakness of air leakage in under-levers. I am repenting the error of not having listened to him!

I am also a sufferer as I bought a under lever airrifle of Tommy brand few years ago.It started loosing its power after using for few months.Sometimes the pellet got stuck in breech.Other problem was auto fire due to worn out piston sear.
They are still using poor quality metal and vague design.
Basu Sir is very correct in his statement as it leaks air in breech.
Thanks.

Well....Shyamal.....BSA type tap loaders are all bogus.
On the top of that a 4.2 kgs gun is not easy to operate.
I do not recommend any one for buying guns.
I share only my experience.
I have SDB Sport & GenNex.
Sport was favorite till the arrival of GenNex.
GenNex is only 2.7 kgs and it produce 7-7.5 fpe at muzzle.
I mostly use GenNex where Sport waits at corner .

Same here Basu Sir.My Artemis is also taking rest with thin layer of oil.I pick it up only when I do maintenance job and fire few pellets to break the inertia of internal components.
Anyone who is accustomed to 6-7fpe gun will never look for high powered ones.
Thanks.
