finally after so much problems of sending money to pyramydair, they have shipped my consignment to india. i have recieved only a tracking number, which checks out with fedex. but as per your guidelines i have not recieved any consumer invoice. all that i have is the order which they had sent me much before payments were made, is that sufficient.

inside of your parcel there is commercial invoice, custom may ask for same invoice from Fedex, I do not have experience with pyramydair, but when I got rifle directly from Walther I asked for invoice and they sent me invoice in PDF file.

Just saw a note on importing Air Rifle with Scope.

My personal experience. UPS and Customs tossed my parcel for four months (Oct '09 to Jan '10) at Mumbai Airport because I had pellets and scope. But finally I got my parcel with the rifle and the scope, however gave up on the pellets with the government officials.

Later during my US visit I have carried close to 5000 pellets (Brands like Gamo, Diana RWS, Crossman, Daisy both .22 & .177) and two scopes (BSA and Walther). Customs never questioned and walked through the Green channel in a breeze

I've called for a Crossman Challanger .177 PCP competition rifle from Prymyd Air. I've furnished all the documents mentioned in the list along with my Company ID and a declaration that I am working there at what designation to the customs through FedEx.
The customs officer is convinced that the documents are in order. However he wants me to prove to him that I am really a shooter since in one of the notifications it is written that "Shooters registered with a rifle association" .....
I guessed that using common sense and law of association, when i have submitted a photocopy of my Rifle association ID card and a letter from the Association indication that I am a life member confirming my status should be enough.
I havent taken part in any competitions as yet.
How do i prove it to him that I am a shooter? any inputs?

bonafide letter from the association seems to be the answer.

on a lighter note, sent him some spent targets, broken bottles, plinked tins, metals sheets and plywood embedded with pellets. also a video showing you shoot!!

Hi Deepak,

Rifle club id is enough. Ask the official if proof that you furnished if not enough and if he can give the same in writing, so you can pursue the same with your club.

Also ask him the precedents prior to your case. Either the official is new on job or plain.....

But honestly deepak the problem importing with Fedex/UPS is high demurrage if the stuff is held up. Check if you can educate him:)

Thats for thoses who have shot Mininum Qualifying Score. Now the procedure has been simplified meaning If you are renowned Shot, import after produces a certificate to the Assistant Commissioner of Customs or Deputy Commissioner of Customs as the case may be, from the National Rifle Association of India that the you are renowned shooter applicable in case you are importing shotgun, pistol etc basically firearm.

Earlier notification used to read as "(c) Arms and Ammunition shall be subject to the Licensing conditions imposed by Directorate General of Foreign Trade and approvals by the Ministry of Home Affairs.";

The said amendment is not applicable to Air gun of .177 caliber.
You should stick to one applicable in your case.

I visited the office personally and asked the officer in charge about his doubts.
He said he needed two things:
1] an NOC from arms and ammunition dept stating that there is no problem in releasing the rifle.
2] Some indication from the rifle association that I am a shooter.

For the first I had the Police Commissioner's letter indicating that .177 caliber does'nt need a license.
For the second I had to meet his boss, luckily he was very cooperative and said that anybody who shoots at a rifle range is a shooter. He said proficiency is a different ball game all-together.
He then said if we are able to see .177 written on the rifle ... then he should not have any problem in clearing the rifle.
Then they saw the rifle and I was able to show them the engravings. To my bad luck, the dot before 177 was missing, so I had to convince then stating that 4.5 mm is .177 caliber.
They have cleared it now.
Waiting for FedEx to send it now.

Any knowledge of octroi? this guy is asking me for 4% Octroi ... coming up to something like 1800/-.
Any document claiming exemption on that? or am i being too greedy?
