Mehul:

Lunchtime, so I will answer your post in a few minutes.

I don't need to show any pictures of guns to you. Yes I work for a living, so does my wife, quite comfortably and own a nice home in California all paid for. Yet I am no snob, to pose for people with my guns. Am no PHD like you say I am not, yet am a senior executive in a recently gone IPO company. Fourth IPO I have participated in, the last decade. So I am no beggar either, as claimed by you, working on a job I don't like (again as claimed by you.

Need to know how many guns I have, exactly 2, a 686 Onyx in 20 gauge and a 96 Pistol in 40 S&W, both Beretta. Getting two more along with an Air-Pistol, a Beretta 682 12 gauge, a Benelli Montefeltero 20 gauge, a Daisy 747 Avanti match Pistol. All Utilitarian guns no "Snobby Showpieces".

As far as my talking of your "Beloved Gamba", re-read my phrase, I mentioned the possibility of failing. Every hunter knows guns fall down, and crack stocks etc. Had just mentioned the possibility, a very real one. No intent to offend the gun or the owner.

Me being a socialist, don't assume things, I vote Republican and have done ever since I became a Citizen in 1985.

As far as you all I know is your ownership being limited to (your own postings) to Marlin 60, Browning A-5, A inexpensive Blackpowder gun, a vintage 1100 and a Junk class .22. Could be fine shooting guns, but certainly no "Bespokes". Tell me where I am wrong.

Last but not the least, "Those who live in a protected environment should respect others and not get personal". Re: Moderators having the right to edit posts and card people.

And Finally the truth: Gun starved Individual X comes to the US buys a few, dreams of buying a few more. Outside in the real world nobody cares about guns, just as nobody cares for Sand in the Sahara. So to feel good individual X puts his possesions/wishlist on a forum. Why to get the wah-ji-wah, something he so desperately lacks in real life. Just to be not too obvious, he disguises the thread as "What you all wish for", instead of the more real "What I own and plan to own". Expects "wah-ji-wah" from most gun starved members. Party popper, me, comes along, mentions something else. End of Day dream--Start of Internet "Flame war"!!!

UH: All this back and forth for a measly mention of a gun (Beretta) to a Moderator a gun the so called expert not like!!!, the guy explodes!!!

What a waste of time, on an unimportant and trivial issue. Time I could be spending doing something useful.

Have to go back to my world of reality now, can't be party to dreamers of an era and it's vestiges, long gone.

Guys guys Guys, you are both respected members of our forum and you should know better. Come on, relax both of you.

I'm sure everyone will see that both of you are right in your own way. For me, if I had $100k, I'd put $5k on a decent Beretta/Perazzi workhorse shotgun, another $5k on a nice Dakota bolt rifle and the remaining $90k on say 20 hunting/shooting trips, rather than $50k on a H&H and 5 hunting trips.

And the point is…….

This is a slippery slope and this should end here. Sharief post states all…. Life is all about chances and choices we make . You both made tough ones to be where ever you are but what does that have to do with shooting as a sport.or as my acerbic boss states price of tea in China. ..

Don’t forget this is a very fledgling group and opinions and discussions should not transcend to personal levels. Lets leave it at Gamba vs Beretta

You both are highly accomplished individuals, write pretty well so pull back the horses, delete the posts and owe each other whisky shot now don’t start English scotch vs Peter Scott vs Irish. Solan No1 is the best.

Cheers..I am having one ..Gleni

All I have to say is that you buy what you can afford and you get what you pay for.

Mehul,

On your original query, considering that you have retained your Indian passport and contemplate coming back to India at some future point of time,I would suggest the following to be included in the guns that you buy:-

1.A rifle in 30-06(you are getting one built,I believe)

2.A good double barrel 12 ga. shotgun.(SXS with double triggers,if I may suggest)If you are lucky, you could get one in India itself.

3.A high capacity .32 pistol(get as many magazines as you can) or ,if you like,a revolver( you could buy one in .30 carbine.I think Taurus makes one)

penpusher,
That looks like a good list.
What would you think of a 32 H&R Mag handgun? Marginally more fpe and can use 32 regular ammo too.
Otherwise, oustanding for an Indian Scenario!

Eljefe,

A .32 H&R Mag would be for all practical purposes a .32S&W as .32 mag ammo is not available here. One another option that Mehul has if he wants to buy a pistol is one in .30 Tokerov.Ammo is easily available and in Indian terms ,cheap.Perhaps a CZ 52 in .30 with an additional barrel in 9mm for practise in the US ,but he will have to leave it behind if he brings the pistol to India. What I would get,if given an opportunity, is a multi- caliber pistol(.22,.25,.32 and .380).And yes, this is allowed even by the Indian Arms Act.

Yeah, I was at one time giving this cal a hard look, but the conundrum of what do you do after the first 50 rounds of 32 mag are blown away? :( back to being a 32 short man!
Happy with the 22LR...

You have no idea what guns I have owned, what my family has in India and what I have on order. I have no need to edit your post, I would let it stay as evidence of what a piece of work you are. I have lived in several countries other than the USA, and yes, I can afford to live the life I am living. I don't brag about what I do and do not need to. Certainly not to a non entitylike you.

I didn't call you a beggar - that is your word - and since you claim that I did, you are a pathetic liar. Or, maybe, that is your own opinion of yourself.

Yes, I have better things to do than take advice from a no name who pimps a certain brand and claims knowledge of firearms and even more of who I happen to be. Again, I do not have to flaunt my credentials but those who know me know where to look if they need anything about me.

What guns I am going to buy will be here in pictures and will be shot by others. That is more than could be said about you.

Now, on to the question of what gun I am going to buy from my neighbourhood shops and suggestions from those not pimping for particular brands.

penpusher,

I will be ordering a full custom 30-06 Mauser this year, haven;t decided whether it would be a single square bridge or a round bridge action. The rifle will be on an action by Waffenfabrik Hein - they are poised to introduce a full Mauser action at the SHOT show and I am yet to decide whom I would get the stock made by. It will be a classic style stock with no cheekpiece like a pre war English sporter and with parade sights. The rifle will never wear a scope.

The Renato Gamba that I posted about is an Ambassador Executive sidelock SxS with a feature that I really like, a checkered wood butt and no buttplate. I just might buy it. It has scroll engraving on the sidelocks and a French grey finish on them. The wood is very nice walnut. Hope to pick it up shortly as I have some trips to make in the very near future. The owner has agreed to keep the gun for me as it is going to be a personal sale. I also hope to pick some guns up from the Uk later this summer when I travel there. We shall be selling a property there and I have to help my mother do that after my father's death. I am in touch with Grumpy and another friend there about some guns which I am thinking about.

I am not sure about moving back to India at any particular point in the future unless my health takes a significantly worse turn as the treatment that I am undergoing here is pathetic at best even though it costs about 20 times what something similar might cost in India. I need to be here as I have a new company and at the moment I cannot afford to leave it and move out of the USA. There are too many responsibilities on me. Yes, I hope to keep my Indian passport for as long as I can. I hope that I would be able to, if I have to return, bring whatever guns I have, with me.

Cheers!

Mehul and Satpal,

Argue all you like but both of you need to reign back on the personal comments please. Failing which I will be forced to delete the posts or the entire thread.

Thanks.

Mack The Knife,

You're going to be accused of misusing moderator previleges if you do that.

My response to the "honourable member" is going to be in buying guns. Hope to start soon, with a horrendously unsafe and about to blow Renato Gamba sidelock.

Speaking of typos, it is "rein." Welcome to the club of speed typing-dyslexics. 8)
