Man with gun under pillow forfeits licence

Post by sharan_kan » Tue Dec 02, 2008 5:24 pm

Came across an article on Reuters.com website..

BERLIN (Reuters) - A German man who slept with a loaded revolver under his pillow has lost his gun license after a court ruled it to be irresponsible behavior.

The 56-year-old was stripped of his license for failing to store the weapon properly, Braunschweig administrative court judge Torsten Baumgarten told Reuters Tuesday. The gun was only discovered by chance during a police inspection.

"His home was being checked because he had threatened to throw a hand grenade if the city council approved plans to build a high-voltage power line in his neighborhood," Baumgarten said. "The decision to take his license was made independently."

Baumgarten said the ruling, which sets a legal precedent in Germany, in effect outlaws sleeping on top of a firearm -- because the owner of the gun is not in control of the weapon and is therefore putting himself and others at risk.

"Anyone could come along and take the gun away from him, his wife for example," Baumgarten said. The man, who also owned several other weapons, said he kept the gun under his pillow because he feared burglars.

Never imagined that this can happen in any of the Western Countries where Gun laws are so liberal....

IFG Gurus, what are the prevailing rules in India regarding this (putting a loaded gun/firearm under pillow)...?

Regards...

Yeah, he carried those big framed Webley Revolvers in quite a few movies in his left hand and the barrel was mostly pointed UP while he would deliver a "jaandar dialogue". Come to think of it a swing out cylinder towards left side would be very awkward for him, being a lefty.

cheers,

RP.

he must have been most probably charged with improper storage.i know of another case where a husband was charged with improper storage.both hubby and wife stored their guns in a single safe and the collection included handguns for which the lady didnt have a permit.the cops came in for a routine check and the lady opened the safe ending the whole story :?

Two contrasting experiences and episodes of the two top NY Giant receivers/players.

One Plaxico Burress shot himself in the thigh in a nightclub with an unlicensed .40 Glock. Now NYC's Bloomberg has been ranting and will throw the book at him and he will loose his $35 Million contract . All this even after every year prior to start of the season at NYC Giants camp in an upstate new York university campus the State Troopers come in and have a seminar on gun laws and dos and donts. Plaxico was treated at Cornell University medical school and even they didnt report the case to Police and now the doctor and school are also under the gun.

While his other team mate was robbed outside his house by a gunmen.

He wouldn't have had his license confiscated if he didn't pull up the 'grenade gig'; another thing he did wrong was he allowed non-license holders to handle his baby. Now, that's irresponsible behaviour. What do the senior IFG-ans have to say on this regard?
