PREFERED WEAPON

Post by aadhaulya » Sun Nov 22, 2015 8:15 am

It would be interesting to know what kind of firearm does one prefer. (Hand gun, rifle or shotgun) all have different utilities like hand gun can be carried easily when one wants to. The rifle is a long range weapon for target practice and plinking but I find some good looking shotguns but to do any serious shooting specialised equipment is required like trap/ skeet equipment.
In India there are a few licenses for all three weapons my question is what license do you own and is it as per your choice or would you have liked to own something different.
I own all the three weapons but since the membership of DKSSR has become so expensive I am able to use my revolver and rifle for plinking blowing up bricks and stones. Though I like the 12 bore shotgun the most, I can't use it anywhere except fire it in the air and that is boring.
That is why I want to know what are others doing with their guns.
Also if you do not have a license what would you like to own.

Would prefer small gandasa of around 3 or 4 feet length as described in another post here https://www.indiansforguns.com/viewtopi ... 68#p222053

Reasons:

1) It is multi utility axe/ tool that that can be considered agricultural implement to cut small trees or branches for firewood, fodder etc. thus not covered by Arms Act 1959.

2) Just rotate the stick so that axe head is in opposite direction(away from the target), you can use it as a stick to hit or shoo away animals. Depending on how hard or where you hit, such a blow can also pretty fatal because the axe head's weight is involved.

3) It is pretty effective in skilled and strong hands as a weapon of defense.

A powerful cross bow, katar(punch dagger), short or long sword are also good weapons having their own limitations and advantages depending upon the circumstances or situation involved.

GBM,

I also have a weapon in mind that is not covered under the 'arms act' and one will never be prosecuted for carrying it, come what may. I am in the process of restoring it and hopefully would be able to put up the pics in a couple of days.
Well here I am talking about firearms, as they seem to be becoming wall hangers. But the love of weapons keeps me going.

Probably you mean the following http://indiansforguns.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=15556 Unfortunately I am not aware of any judicial precedent therefore it is a matter of caution with advise of a local lawyer only.

GBM,

I am not referring to actual obsolete wall hangers. The situation that is developing now (DKSSR membership also going out of reach) the normal new weapons on regular licences are becoming wall hangers.
But I would like to know what is the prefered weapon of people generally, even though there is no practical use of owning one except for sport shooters.

Atul Ji,

I use .22 cal rifle for plinking at farm, sometimes 100 meters or so. There was a hill on our land which was cut into half few years ago. I use this as my range. And use AR at home for plinking.

Handgun seems to be very handy for travel and concealment. I somewhat like OU shotguns more than SXS. Hope to get them endorsed soon.

Perhaps the best weapon is 12 bore shotgun of any kind it has highest variety of amno despite ban on buckshot or LG,SG amno in India. Most accurate is single barrel one .It may sound but it is fact single barrel has better accuracy .But only limitation of diificult to conceal. The handgun easiest to carry is .22 revolver but .32 in improved one is good choice.Rifles r long distance weapon but for the in simplicity and accuracy from close quaters it is nowwhere to shotguns.

Also if you do not have a license what would you like to own.
Theoben Eliminator Crow Magnum .22 gas ram
Diana RWS 350 Magnum springer .22
Gamo Extreme hunter gas ram .177

Ideally all 3 :D (not sure if the Theoben is available now) or at least one of them!

Interesting question aadhaulya :)

I think the chap who drafted out the 3-Gun Licensing Rule must have gone through a similar thought process and came up with the brilliant idea - why not of 'one of each'!? :D

That is what I presumed. And had that in mind and was ready to fight for it, when I applied for my licences but luckily got the three licenses, without any problem.

My primary (& most crucial) weapons are my brain & feet which thankfully I've rarely ever had put to good use... :)

Next I prefer concealable weapons over visible ones.. Eg. A pair of karambits or a karambit + short dagger/punch/stick/rod/chain etc.

Glock or colt are last & strictly optional! ;)

Interesting collection of thoughts. I would like to rephrase my original question.

"If everyone was allowed to own only one firearm, which out of the 3 allowed (Rev/ Pistol, Rifle and shotgun) which would one prefer to posses."

A rifle no two thoughts about that .Bought up on the countryside was never quite fascinated with a concealed arm but have a affinity for rifles ,not certainly but probably because there were quite a few around in the family .Further association and participating in club rifle events kind of sealed it .From a sporting perspective I feel it is instinct driven but from a self protection angle its necessity and depends on the kind of threat you are exposed to.

.45 pistol with 10-rd clip, threaded barrel, scope rail & tritium sight inserts.

Rifles in India are mostly one round affairs & effective over longer range only. Over short distances, the pistol throws lead much faster allowing you a greater chance of hitting or suppresing a target. With a good imported pistol & careful aim, you can hit or at least suppress an enemy beyond 50m. Beyond that you & your enemy have an equal chance of putting your feet to good use! :D

I feel safer without a weapon as it attracts unwanted attention & paints a target on the carrier's back when the push comes to shove! ;)
If I ever carry a weapon I do so in the most concealed manner only. Brandishing weapons is for goons, landlords and civil police only IMHO!

If given such freedom of choice I shall carry a Beowolf .50 cal automatic rifle with a dual drum magazine.
