can any one clear-up the following:
if one has a arms licence with an arms endorsed in it.

one wants to do a TR.
does one, first needs to sale the arms that is in listed in the licence, then have the arms endorsed in it removed by DC/DM office, then do a TR and have the new arms endorsed in the licence.

any thoughts
thanks

Lets assume you have 3 firearms already on your license before you left abroad, when you come back with another firearm on TR and want to have it endorsed in your license, you will first have get permission to sell or transfer one of your existing firearms, so that the total will now not exceed the 3 firearm limit.

thanks Anand
so its best to have an empty slot on the licence before bringing one back on TR?

nagarifle,
"so its best to have an empty slot on the licence before bringing one back on TR?"
That would be best.
The next option would be to get permission to sell one of the existing arms while your "imported on TR firearm" lies with Customs. This will probably be easier as it would count as a replacement(if in the same category) rather than a new issue though it may take more time.

Import a firearm

Dear IFG'ans,

I have a query about importing guns to India. I have already read the threads regarding import of a firearm to India. However, I am not clear on certain things. :stupid:

:?: Is import of guns totally banned in India without any conditions? If no, what are the conditions?

:!: Note: If the answer to the above question is YES, then the following questions are invalid. :!:

:?: What are the categories of firearms that can be imported? (like revolvers, pistols, rifles, shotguns)
:?: Is it true that only 'Renowned Shots' can import firearms? Or is it that the 'Renowned Shots' are exempted from the import duties?
:?: Is it possible for a civilian who holds a valid licence to import a gun to India if he/she is willing to pay the import duties?
:?: I believe the import duties are very high on imported firearms. Does anyone have any rough idea about the amount of duties to be paid on imported firearms?

Looking forward to the legal experts to answer the questions in detail? Thanks in advance to all of you.

Regards
Vikram Dutta

@ grewal : I do apologize for missing the info, and posting the topic. But I guess this is what IFG is all about. There are thousands of topics and even more responses to those topics, which are sometimes even more informative. We are all humans and we do err.

Didn't at all mean to irritate you guys. Just trying to learn a new thing. Thanks for all the help and support. IFG rocks!!! I'm lovin' it! :D

Bring in the Change

Guys,
Indian firearm laws suck. I dont even have a license in Canada, still I can go to a range.. rent a gun..(any caliber)and that for cheap..like $30 for any glock handgun with 50rds ammo(9mm).. 30rds (.45 acp).. and fire up the targets..
If the laws don't change may be people will try to import guns the other way in.. and thats tru..
There is another way to fulfill your gun shooting hobby especially if u live in Punjab... get a long period visa for pakistan.. u can buy ak47s from sabzi mandis there and let you adrenalin flow.. hide it somewhere in the jungles there before coming back and visit again after a short time wen u feel like shooting
