As per the new Arms Rules 2016, 7.62x39 mm is classified as "Restricted Arms" so while it is "technically possible" to own one against a valid arms license, the license for it can only be issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India (practically impossible)!

The "restricted arms list" is a negative list i.e. any calibre NOT mentioned explicitly there is automatically considered "permissible"

So the 7.62x54mm is a permissible calibre and you can own one against an arms license issued by the local licensing authority.

7.62x54 is legal ok.

i found a another gun its Saiga kalashnikov ( straight pull version) that chambers .223 remington ammo.

so .223 remington is permissible or not?

and one more thing that in india we can own a semi auto version of machine pistol ( such as vz scorpion or .22 uzi) that chambers a npb cartridge?

Please read viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2780 and Schedule I of the new Arms Rules 2016

Semi-auto centerfire rifle = Restricted
.223 = 5.56x45mm = Restricted

Semi-auto .22 rimfire rifle = permissible
Semi-auto shotgun = permissible

Wish you luck trying to find any of the guns described by you (above) in India.

Annonymous97.. Dude Seriously? This is India, not Indiana. The best way for you to see or even touch those Calibres is to Join the Army.

Firstly, you can't get a Gun that fires this Calibre, as imports are banned. 2ndly, forget about Everything Else, get a job in US & settle there. And use all the weapons you want. [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]
