I had the day off today, so I decided to re-visit this trip to Michael, IL with Mark and his family.
Just reading through the whole post was a wonderful refresher of the fabulous time we IFG'ians all had. I relived the entire experience! Fireworks, indeed!

We've gotten a fair amount so now the soil is pretty soaked. Then when we get a few inches it doesn't take long for the creek to fill up and get like this.

Correct, though it is usually only an hour or so and often less. Again, it depends on the rainfall but as you can see it can move a tremendous amount of water so when it stops coming down it clears up fairly quickly.

Wow! That's a sight I would have loved to see, Mark - the transformation of the mild stream to a raging torrent!
