A relevant and eye-opening article by Abhijeet Singh; thanks for sharing chengy! (y)

With the recent introduction and passing of Bill C-71 Canada is heading towards gun laws that criminalize legal gun owners while doing nothing to address the real reasons behind gun violence. One of the major reasons being the smuggling of guns across the border from the United States.

One other frightening, major change is that the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police), considered as experts in firearms will be given arbitrary power to classify firearms as Non-Registered, Registered or Prohibited. Granting such sweeping law-making powers to a law enforcement agency is a clear conflict of interest, not to mention, undemocratic.

I am sure it will be of interest to IFGíans to observe what a relatively new gun-rights group - CCFR https://firearmrights.ca/en/home/ is attempting with hitherto, unprecedented membership numbers and support from lawful gun owners. They have come up with a series of really effective, simplified communication that they call Explainer Videos. They are all short, to the point and crisp explanations of firearms specific issues. These communications seek to convey the facts to the general public, (gun-owners/anti-gun-lobby and the blissfully unaware citizen)

Abhijeet, many thanks for that intuitive split to a new topic! :D I was just considering contacting a moderator to move my writeup to a more appropriate place. :D

This train of thought goes back to More gun control in Canada started by IFG Member NAHMINT284 on Fri Sep 07, 2018 viewtopic.php?f=3&t=26360&p=257399&hilit=CCFR#p257399 and my reply mentioning Canadian Coalition for Firearm Rights (CCFR).

Keep the good fight up, never give up!

I did see that, but considering the current climate here and the topical relevance, decided to create a discrete thread for this. Maybe some months later we can merge it with that :)

Revisiting this topic two years later - the CCFR has evolved in its stance from being merely an educational group supporting firearms ownership to that of taking legal action against the powers that be.

Their mission statement: The Canadian Coalition for Firearm Rights aims to be a strong and reputable, public-facing voice for Canadian firearms owners. We are committed to maintaining our current rights and freedoms while continuing to push as a mobilizing and organizational force for positive legislative change.

You may well imagine it takes integrity, guts and enormous amounts of funds to fight legal cases.

I am pleased and proud to note that the firearms community, as well as regular, well-informed citizens, have contributed generously to the cause. The terrifying issue, they understand, is headed toward an escalation - of a slow but steady erosion of basic human and property rights.

I say this in light of the example of the restrictive 3-gun match situation in India; soon to be 1-gun ownership? Food for thought! :(
