India has worlds second largest civilian arsenal

Post by shutzen » Thu Aug 30, 2007 9:32 am

HI! Read a report in TOI that after the US India has the worlds second largest civilain arsenal. Maybe if they count the country made and smuggled arms in India then we might just scrape thru to No.1 ;)

Americans own 270 million of the worlds 875 million known firearms. They have 90 guns for 100 citizens.

Worldwide there is roughly one firearm for every 7 ppl.

India has estimated 46 million firearms with civilians outside military and law enforcement - this represents 4 guns for every 100 Indians.

China ranks third with 40 million pvt. firearms. 3 guns for every chinee - not velly good. ;0

Germany, france, pakistan, Mexico, brazil and russia were next in ranking of civilain arsenals.

only 12% of civilian weapons are thought to be registered - Interesiting- wonder where the missings ones r holed up ;)

Well if the statistics are accurate, I blame the system...the damn farce of a government policy.

Thanks to the dolts and donkeys who control the system and their half witted measures to control fire arms, India now has at least 40 million Unregulated arms instead of 40 million regulated arms.

We the law abiding gun owners will end up being the scape goat.

Unfortunately that is the way it goes just about every where.
There comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor polite, nor popular -- but one must ask, "Is it right?"

It's considered good practice to post a link to the original news story when posting excerpts... Anyhow here goes -

BTW - if people have not done so already, please read between the lines of the above mentioned news story. Except for Iraq and Serbia which are war torn countries - all of the other countries mentioned with a high density of gun ownership have fairly low crime rates. Of course USA excepted! But then if one looks at the crime rate in USA and compares it to India - it comes as no surprise that our stringent firearms laws do not seem to be having the desired effect. In fact in spite of their freer gun laws and almost 1 gun per capita, India and the USA aren't that far apart in (per capita murder rates) - USA is 24th, India 26th. In fact, if we consider total murders (rather than per capita figures), India does rather poorly relative to the US.

If one notes the other countries mentioned (with high gun ownership patterns/ density), all of them rank really really low in terms of murders and other violent crime rates. Now suddenly I can see all those anti-gunners beginning to retract their statements and shout that crime has more to do with socio-economic conditions than gun ownership patterns! The bloody hypocrites that they are!!

Also, there is another side to this... If India is truly a free country, a democracy, a "government by the people" - THEN WHY do we see the servants disarming their masters by force? What do they (the government) fear from us, if theirs is truly a legitimate, benevolent government? If the State does not seek to control us, why does it want us disarmed?

The usual answer - is that "the common man"/ "mere citizens" are half-witted children, incapable of safely handling "dangerous" commodities such as guns or explosives or medicines or information. And only when some half-witted children pass a civil service exam or are elected by other halfwits to work for the wise and benevolent State do they magically become smart and honest and trustworthy enough to carry guns and decide whom shall be "allowed" to possess guns and what sort of design, shape, or weight such weapons shall be.

Cheers!

A government that fears and mistrusts its own citizenry is wrong.
