Small arms treaty and gun database

Post by warthog » Sun Jul 08, 2012 1:37 pm

As you may know that this month UN is going to approve this treaty which will severely curtail private gun owership and have databases.

http://www.hindustantimes.com/India-new ... 60872.aspx

With absolutely no data available on the number of firearms holders in the state, the home department has decided to create a database of all licences issued and names of firearm holders in a digital format.
In the current scenario, if there is a shooting incident in a specific area,
there is no way that the police can use the licence issuing data to identify the person using the weapon.

Also, the growing number of cases of people possessing licences and never renewing them has given rise to arms trafficking. "This will not only help the police tackle crime, but will also help regulate processes of licence renewal, buying the weapon within the three-month deadline, and keeping tap on people who have illegal weapons. It will plug the loopholes in the system," said minister of state for home Satej Patil while revealing the new initiative by the department.

SO now the govt can easily take your guns away.IS NAGRI going to do anything about it.Wont this violate article 21 and privacy?

Also the US fast and furious scandal was done in collusion with the whitehouse and mexican cartels. They were sending guns over the border to have an excuse to ban semi auto guns but it came out and the us attorney general was found to be in contempt of court.

I do believe that V.P.Singh,a BJP MP had sent a letter signed by more than 100 MP's cutting across party lines expressing concerns about certain aspects of the proposed treaty.India is as yet,not a signatory to this.

Read para no. 3 and the last para in particular.
Justice alone is the mainstay of government and the source of prosperity to the governed, injustice is the most pernicious of things; it saps the foundations of the government and brings ruin upon the realm - Sher Shah Sur, Sultan-ul-Adil.

The secretary general said he was disappointed at the failure to agree on a treaty, calling it "a setback." But he said he was encouraged that states have agreed to continue pursuing a treaty and pledged his "robust" support.
