Modern tribals with shotguns, with one for each person!
Wonder if these were made available to them only for the photo opportunity? Please enlighten.
Obviously there wont be any licensing system for tribal usage. For its own reasons its not really possible, IMHO.

Does the tribal rivalry visible only in ultra rural regions, I guess it will be moderate to harmless in urban areas.

Thanks for sharing the article.

each man has his own gun, not given for the photo opportunity.
they are not modern tribals , just tribe people who have the right to bear arms. shotguns and muskets every house has at lest one.

eh the the rivalry ! heads do roll time to time.

"Heads do roll time to time".
Some Naga houses have an excellant collection of animal heads (skull mounts) displayed outside.
I am told there was a time when they also displayed skulls of the enemy as trophies.
Nice snaps. When ever I see snaps of the Naga warriors I am reminded of the Native (red) American Indians.

To Take my gun away for I might kill someone is just like cutting my throat for I might yell "Fire !!" in a crowded theatre ..

So that means by constitution tribe people can own and use the arms for livelihood. The shotgun shells are expensive, amazed to think what the economics would be!

Please find an excerpt from the arms Act 1959.....

41. Power to exempt

Where the Central Government is of the opinion that it is necessary or expedient in the public interest so to do, it may, by notification in the Official Gazette and subject to such conditions, if any, as it may specify in the notification,---

(a) exempt any person or class of persons, or exclude any description of arms or ammunition, or withdraw any part of India, from the operation of all or any of the provisions of this Act; and

(b) as often as may be, cancel any such notification and again subjects, by a like notification, the person or class of persons or the description of arms and ammunition or the part of India to the operation of such provisions.

we do get some heads hanging on trees now and then. in some parts they make and use their own muskets etc. some very good craftsmanship, would put IOF to shame.

just come back from a recent trip to interior and have learn that in one lots of small hill fires are raging, this is for growing rice, but lots of damage is done. shame really.

powder charge are used with a little caution and finger do fly away at times.
