What`s this ?

Post by Grumpy » Thu Nov 15, 2007 5:38 pm

We haven`t had an `identify this` type post for a while so I thought that I`d test you with this :
All `guesses` will be welcome - and it`s not quite as tricky as you might think.........not completely anyway.
Just click on the red `X`.

Heyy... I was missing this grumps...

Well at first look, the trigger guard looks somewhat disproportionately small for a regular luger... so I thought it'd be an enlarged luger of some type....say a John Martz .45 luger... but again I don't recall any JM make with a grip safety...

Since it doesn't look (Proportionally)like a Model1900..or 1902 or 1904... or any DWM make... It could've been one of the Swiss ones perhaps the Model1929... but again the 29 doesn't have a toe on the grip.

It could be a Luger 1903-04-06 transitional model.... or is it a DWM 1913(No stock attachment rails?)

Or all wrong?... Please don't tell me it's Chinese or a Darra reproduction!

CC, you started off really well.......but then lost the plot completely !

A `Chinese or Darra reproduction` ? PLEASE ! - That`s really losing the plot !

I want to know:
Who built it ?
Where was it made ?
When was it made ?
What calibre is it
and how much is it worth ?

5 points possible and you have scored one - which is a good start.
- I`m not going to tell you which point you scored though - not for a while anyway.

Well...Grumps... now that you'd confirmed the first part (the enlarged .45 bit)...I do vaguely recall a modern European made custom Luger in .45... could be Austrian...I think. I do recall it was more than very expensive.

I initially thought it was a Vickers Luger - but am now (after reading Grumps comment) more inclined towards this being one of the .45 cal Lugers which were submitted to the US military for testing (prior to acceptance). Of course they lost out to the Colt 1911 and this would make this a pretty collectible (and therefore valuable) pistol...

Close? Or completely off the mark? ;)

Cheers!

You also score one point Abhijeet.......but as that same point has already been scored by CC it has to be an honourary point. Hard luck.
Some good reasoning though.......but mostly wrong !

Oooh, very good CC.
You now have two points.
- By the way, you`re getting close to another two......but need to be specific.

Ok... finally remembered...well the net helped jog my memory... found it. Credit goes to google... not me

I believe it is a Austrian made Nedbal .45ACP Luger. Apparently only 10 made by NEDBAL Ges.m.b.H.

Nedbal Ges.m.b.H.
Ortsstrasse 189

Austria

Costs a measly £12,000 or so... pretty affordable by Indian Standards!!

That was Goats or Flamingoes or something - not firearms.
