You throw it at the bad guy.... or hit him over the head with it?

None of the above, XL. This baby collects your energy and focuses onto the bad guy. He goes wham against the wall...... Some of the more fantasmic kung fu movies have that move...... whirlwind of blue light whacking the bad gay!!!
Cheers!

Nah - it's "yantra" - a metal plate with an inscribed diagram that may contain some figures and a small mantra. It's "activated" by specific mantra for that deity and has to be maintained by continuos repetition of some mantra and devotional attitude. An Xian cross can be regarded as a "yantra" or even Amitabh's badge with 786 inscribed (in a movie) turned into a yantra after a fellow Muslim coolie told him of the importance of "786" and Amitabh's character held the badge with reverence that point on or even a regular "taawiz" worn around the arm or neck can be a yantra. Hanuman Chalisa is a small booklet of poetic prayer that's believed to work when one instills within Shri. Hanuman's properties of humility and single point focus and non-attachment. It's very popular in the North while in Maharashtra, "Maruti-stotra" compiled by Samarth Ramdas is equally popular. Why is Hanuman so special ? Well, he's avatar of Bhagwan Shiv who's born as son of Vayu, and Vayu as Lord of Wind is the Lord of strength - as can be attested by any martial artist, since inner strength is controlled by manipulation of breath. Anyway, it's matter of belief ... and faith ... and to some, humour. :-) regs, A.
