Post by main13 » Thu Jan 07, 2016 3:25 am

Hi there!

Got this urge to design a DMR-type assault rifle in .308 yesterday evening. So here it is! Being an Indian perhaps the only thing I can do other than this is to print it out, post it opposite the bathroom throne.. & you know...

Some specs are as below:
Platform: AR15
Rifle Length: 42.75"
Barrel: 20" heavy, fluted
Length of Pull: 15.41"
Rifle Weight: 12 lbs approx

Bolt/Charging Handle: LR308
Caliber: .308 Win
Muzzle: Compensator
Gas Block: .750
Ambidextrous: Yes
Trigger: Giselle match rifle 2-stage adjustable
Stock: SSR 25
Grip: FRS 15
Sights: Flip Up
Scope: 2.5-10 X 44 Vortex
Magazine: 25rd

Hi Main13,

Not bad at all, the design looks good...when are joining the IOF ? (Please...that way we can be assured of better products) :)

Best wishes,

Any day the GOI agrees to 'disinvest' IOF! I know some of the better sarkari babus there, seeing their plight I know what to do! :D

Dear Main13,
I think the pistol grip is very stupid. :)

Sir, in the words of Chandrasekhar Azad, "I was Azad, I am Azad, I shall remain Azad forever!"
I don't see why our holy spooks must come get me.. No laws broken here! ;) Unless some IPS-policewala posted in some int-agency decides he needs a 'bakra' to avoid becoming one himself...

Thanks for your kind encouragement sir! :)

ROFL! I new that was coming... Actually I started with keeping the AARMR Hurricane in mind - perhaps make some 'dandy' stock that 'out-dandied' the current one yet having the functionality that we seek.. Didn't you check its gigantic pull length?

Weight reduction was another thing on my mind. If you see carefully, I've modified the muzzle weight into a compensator besides combining the grip & stock of two completely different AR15-based assault rifles. Sights are flip-up type (I like them that way.). If this ever saw the light of the day (& I can't see why & how it could..), I would modify the stock further making it lighter still. Will incorporate grip-addons for people with giant-palms too! :)

Somewhere in the middle of this whole thing I decided I wanted to turn it into a DMR that can be field-stripped & turned into a normal assault rifle by switching its barrel & receiver. Hence some further dandification was mandatory.. I retained the selector in the DMR version so it can be used for full-auto suppression iff needed... Marching with two guns on one's back is a torture that only faujis can understand! :D

Nice work.
As a "Gun Nut" I think its blasphemous to say "assault" rifle
I feel auto, manual-cycling or semi-auto sufficiently define actions.

Point taken sir! The 'assault' word was in reference to its tactical usage & design similarities. In fact my intention was to build a marksman rifle than a specialist sniper, intended for rapid, multiple-engagement of targets, suppression or room-clearing/breach/assault suitability. During an actual shooting, as you might well know, sometimes one doesn't have the 'luxury' of a few extra seconds to switch the rifle or change the barrel...

...barrel and receiver? ...Now you are marching with two guns. You have a long way to go.
