Maintenance of an air rifle

I am aware that this topic has been discussed in detail many times and there is a plethora of information available.

I am a novice and still learning about maintenance. Hence just a couple of questions

WD40 - there are people for and against its use on firearms or air arms. What I have gathered after some research is WD40 is best used for an initial clean up on the outer metal parts of the air rifle followed with a wipe down using a cloth soaked in oil. Is this correct?

For general maintenance, I have bought a small bottle of oil from one of the dealers in Mumbai- the bottle I bought is manufactured by them and is their own brand- I was told this is good to use on both firearms and air arms. The question is that can I use this oil to wipe down my air rifles? I only ask this as I am a little confused if there are separate types of oils for firearms and air arms ? All dealers I visited its absolutely ok to do so but I just wanted to validate this with opinions from fellow members.

Other than this, I have bought a tin of cleaning wads and 4 tins of moly grease for lubing on the inner parts. Is this enough or is there anything I am still missing ?

Thanks in advance gentlemen.

If it's indeed moly grease, stay away from it. It most probably has <10% moly, & is used as bearing/axle lube. You need 60% & above moly paste for AR use. Check the label for recipe.

Dear SMJ,
This is only Indian moly made for ARs.
I do use this moly .
Base is different from Jim Maccai or TTI , yet good enough.

The brand of oil recommended by many AR enthusiasts is Ballistol oil. It's used universally for firearms and Air arms. I follow the same cleaning method as you of wiping out rust with steelwool and WD 40 and then applying ballistol with cotton.

Hi SMJ,
PH molly is quiet good. You will need only a pinch.
I have used WD40 for years together. I do not use oil, though it is a good habit. A good grade oil would do. My uncle used the good old Singer Oil for his gun for decades.
Our forum member Brihar is very knowledge in oils. Try PMing him.
