Chrome plating a blued barrel

I was curious to know is it possible to chrome plate a blued barrel of a rifle, if yes then what would be effect of this to the gun in long run if so any. More specifically the gun in concern would be IOF 30.06 rifle.

Yes, it`s possible to chrome plate a barrel ..... but it will have to be removed from the receiver first. Will need the blue removing and thoroughly de-greasing. The muzzle and breech will have to be plugged to prevent ingress to the bore and the barrel threads covered so that they aren`t chromed.
Long term effect will be the same as the short term - it`ll look as blingy as a tart`s boudoir !
Any chip to the chrome will result in it looking scruffy as heck - and because the bore isn`t chromed it is likely to get chipped at the muzzle.

By the way, have you ever seen a rifle with an externally chromed barrel ? I`ll leave you to ponder why that might be ..........

Are you talking about the inside or the outside of the barrel?

Are you talking about decorative chrome plating or an industrial hard chrome plating?
If you are talking about chrome plating the inside of the barrel, be careful. Hydrogen embrittlement caused by the plating process can be dangerous.
Your average car bumper plating guy won't have the equipment to do it correctly.

hi ramandeep inside of iof 3006 barrel is chrome plated from factory i cant understand why you want a shiny barrel from outside.If you want corrisions resisted barrel from outside then you can go fof it but you will face problums like chips cracks as seen on iof pistol thanks

Well I guess the major problem arising with chrome plating would be that eventually start chipping off from the tip of barrel. Is there a process in which the bluing can be reversed, if yes then is it sustainable for the gun

you are right, i once got a bling/chrome gun ugly as the gypsy crow in the circus, also it puts one off in the sunlight while shooting. yak

only thing that looks good chromed is the wheels of a gypsy
