I was reading The Modern Gunsmith by James Virgil Howe published in 1941, found something interesting there. He wrote cow milk is a very good at removing rust from the bore. According to him the combination of fat and water in milk does the job nice and clean. I got interested and tried Googling but couldn't find any more information about that. Hope someone would shed some light on this topic.

I think in 1941, the cow milk could be having that magical powers.
But in 2011, finding pure cow milk will be tough task.
Removing rust will be easier than findind pure cow milk.

Ah, that doesn't apply to me I guess, we have a small family-owned dairy farm. Maybe finding pure milk is hard for city folks but IMHO removing rust from the bore is harder as vigorous scrubbing might wear the rifling out.

It doesn't necessarily have to be a barrel of a firearm. If someone wants to try the cow milk to remove rust then they can do so on any metal that is rusted.
I think the main problem is the barrel that gets rusted also gets pitting in it. Now the rust can be removed by using a quality product (Zorrik 88 is one of them that is easily available in India) but what about the pitting.
It is something that can not be done away with.

On a lighter note,

I think the author might have suggested, " Drink a lot of cow milk, before removing rust from the barrel.'
As we all know, removing rust from barrel is very laborious job and lots of energy is needed for it.
So the water in cow milk helps prevent dehydration and fat contain gives needed energy.

Since cow products are a topic of discussion here,
I read many years back, in some pamplet promoting cow product. Really sorry but can't remember the publisher.

It said if COW DUNG applied on regular basis on head of a peson, asking stupid questations. He might recover from it !!!!!
Also they said if the Dung is from his own dairy , result will be faster.

EDIT: I just remembered yesterday was my birthday while writing this post. lol I totally forgot about it.
I'm 18 now, NAGRI will soon receive my form

never heard of this before.maybe it might work who knows.

Time to call a spade a spade:

Rust never sleeps and rust attacks all things made of steel.

All responsible gun owners need to know about this deadly malady for reasons of safety and value. We cannot call ourselves gun lovers and allow our weapons to rot like this.

If someone believes cow milk or horse sh*t or elephant piss prevents rust, take some clean nails and put them in a sealed bottle containing their favorite "rust preventive" and check it out after a few days.

Then if it works, report it to us.

Speculation and idle talk have no place on protecting our guns.

can the milk be used afterwards for making tea?

You were just in time - I was about to store the barrel of my favorite rifle inside my largest cow..... to prevent rusting of course...I'm trying to figure it out - was it to prevent rusting in the cow or the rifle barrel...??

I think the most interesting are:

Human milk has about 1/3rd as much protein as either cow or goat.
Human milk has twice the carbohydrate as either cow or goat
Human milk has 1/4th the phosphorous as either cow or goat
Human has five times the of vitamin C. This is not surprising, since of these three species, only human are unable to synthesize their own vitamin C, and thus must get it through the diet.
