Indians For Guns

Hi gun aficionados, wondering how do I get some fresh ammo for my 250 savage ( 250-3000) , the ones I have are probably over 15 years old and I am not sure they will work. Oh yes .... I am in HYD and no Gun stores here seem to have any since ages. Appreciate input from GFI members. Thanks

It is not on the list of ammo that can be imported and thus the only way you can get ammo is to get it in personal baggage, if and when you go abroad.

15 years is not old for ammunition, I still have a couple of hundred Turkish 8x57 rounds that date from the early 50s ,they seem to be 100% reliable . Have also fired several hundred war time production 303 cartridges, the quality of the 303 was a bit variable depending on how it was stored and of course quality of manufacture , I save all of the empty brass and reload it many times, even the Berdan primed one's.

I have been wary after a couple hang fired, maybe they have not been stored in the right conditions. Still have the brass shells infact quite a few but need the trimmings and wondering where in India.

Reloading is in the long term quite economical as long as you can get the components, although, there is a significant outlay before you can start. To start reloading you need to invest in a press , dies and most important is a good set of scales. Then of course you need the consumables ,primers, propellant and projectiles. Perhaps there would be a good opportunity for a business in remanufacturing ammunition , send in the empties and receive full ones in return ,the remanufactured ammo could quite easily be of better quality than some of the commercially produced stuff if what I have read on this board is anything to go by .

PS ,I reload a lot of 303 cases ,I have found the Indian and Pakistan brass to be of very good quality ,some have been reloaded up to 8 or 9 times before showing signs of case head separation.

PPS, Another thing you could look at is your firing pin spring , if it is weak it may cause erratic ignition.
