So far I have seen all this only with IOF cartridges, .315 rifle and the .32 revolver, not seen in .32 ACP till date but the material for manufactuering is much the same.
Dangerous, very dangerous, what is happening to quality control initiatives at IOF, new astram cartridges have crude edges and polish off.

Lucky olly, hope you have survived the Tattooing, As from the picture we can see the quality of product supplied by our only supplier KF. as you fire the Rimmed case ammo of the .32 revolver as per Forensic Ballistics report the ammo when fired should withstand very high pressures of the order of about 40.000 ibs./s.q.in. So do not hesitate but write a complain to the Chief Superintendent of development, (Ammunition) Kirkee, Pune, for the supply of the defective quality of materials used in the manufacturing of the cartridges. Hope your complain does not go to the bin.

Scary.... olly, apart from the burst case which speaks volumes about the quality and standards of KF ammo, the bulged cases and the resulting burst case also points towards a possibly poorly dimensioned chamber. Was that an IOF revolver you used?

Am relieved to know that you're ok Olly.
Not happy with KF . Is this from the same lot that we shot a few moons back at the range ?

Probably this round just got past the QC checks at Khadki, could happen with imported ammo too,
In any case Olly get yourself some Magtechs for self defense, and for prac pick up the ammo at the range.

CC,
The revolver was IOF .32 and this ammo is very new... i think 3-4 months old ?
OUP,
Yes the very same gun and ammo... so you were lucky too ?? Ofcourse our darling SidKapur too...
James,
This shows that i would've done some good deeds in life... that my revolver didn't blow off... This is scary, man !!
AC,
Pls get me some fresh firangi ammo... which I intend using for normal loading / self defence... In a situation, while firing if the revolver blows, the baddy will have the last laugh.... I hate to visualise the smile on his face... especially if he has an illegal Llama or Mauser...
Sanjay,
Sure, your advice is worth a 100 cents...
So what lessons does one learn here ??? IOF is the best revolver, which jams too, to buy in India and KF is the best ammo for that revolver... ??

Have your gun looked over by a smith, for any damage.
The IOF Revs are the largest selling hand guns in India today, around 20000 each yr,
and almost all the users fire IOF ammo,so surely they arent that bad in our context.
I have fired a few thousand rounds in 9 & 7.62,without any incident.
WRT things going wrong with bad ammo ,have seen a badly mangled Colt .357 mag on an american forum,
in another case, three officers lost there lives when faulty RL ammo was fired from a 84 mm Carl Gustav,in both cases the ammo was imported.
Did you fire again with ammo from the same lot/box,was there any issue, unfortunate that it happened, but the good thing is you are doing great and the rev looks in good nick

Happened several times with me with .22Ammo & .12 gauge ammo.
Please check your revolver may be it happened due to swolen chamber or when there is a gap between chamber and bullet ( irregular sizes of ammo case)But i dont think it will explode the gun until there is no obstraction in the barrell.

"Strength is not about how strong u can kick, it's about how strong the life is kicking u and u standup again to keep on going"
IOF ammo for defence and police use is of superior quality and passes through more stringent tests, however the civilian release ammo is of a lower quality.
Brand new 12 Bore Astram cartridges ( about 1 % ) have such crude rims that they don't chamber in guns. I have had an accident earlier, the primer pin was protuding out of the brass cap and it fired on closing the breech.
Cartridge case bursting is very very rare with any ammo manufacturer of repute worldwide, including our neighbours.

Thats a close one, I have had few instances with .22 ammo. As Shahid pointed out glasses sf=afety things should help but this is rediclous. Do follow up with IOF and have the gun inspected.
Best
