Even a .308 cartridge which is a NPB has superior ballistics than the .303 (a PB) !
For 180 gr : Velocity 2,620 ft/s ; Energy : 2,870 ft·lb !! Nosler .308

What a policy : Cartridges with higher 'fire-power' than PB ones are NPB...!!! Jai Ho !! :)
OMG STOP!!! before our mighty government puts 30-06 in PB category :D BTW is .308 Winchester NPB? I thought it was PB since SLRs fire 7.62×51mm NATO. AFAIK 7.62×51 can be fired safely from rifles chambered to fire .308 Winchester.
I too agree with you, this PB NPB thing is completely weird and useless. If I remember correctly it was implanted so rebels can't use military ammo even if they get access to it during riots but the idea was completely retarded IMHO. If civilians can get access to military armory during riots they would get weapons which can chamber the ammo too.
When I'll get to shoot a gun?

the whole issue of PB AND NPB is based on weather its a service ammo or not. it is not based on the ballistic data or advantage etc.

I am not sure about the .308. Yes it is identical to the 7.62 NATO, but probably the latter has different ballistics and hence it probably cannot be used in the .308.

The .308 is freely used in big bore competitions too and is importable by the renowned shots. So by that logic, if it is PB, civilian shooters (renowned shots) should not be able to import it ! The NRAI also issues .308 ammo for competitions... another pointer... !!

Need more clarity here... :?

this is an age old problem when comparing ammo, we need to take into the account the diameter and the length. and if its the same as the service ammo them its more likely its an PB.

saying that 7.62 NATO can be used in 308 rifles. however if one looks at the total mesurement of the 308 round i think there is some difference.(can't find the clippers) :x

.308 is a PB, renowned shooters (big bore) are however permitted to acquire rifles in PB calibres. If you qualify as a renown shooter in the big bore rifle event, you can purchase a .303 rifle as well.

Contrary to the common perception, the PB and NPB concept has absolutely nothing to do with ballistics. The only thing it has to do is to ensure that in time of mutiny against government, the armed forces and people of the country cannot join hands to share their surplus ammunition. This PB and NPB was started during Lord Curzon's time(1899-1904) to ensure that if a mutiny like 1857 may happen again, the Indian soldiers and people will not be able to supply each other with their extra ammunition. Unfortunately our babus of free and democratic India, still have that mindset of British(suffering from mutiny syndrome, distrust of armed forces and people)and kept this PB/NPB thing alive in Arms Rules 1962.

Both are deadly then why 303 is PB & 315 is NBP.
Please clarify.

Hi waquar,
Good b Mentor has already clarified on PB & NPB, plse read again if skipped. To make it very clear lets get back to the year 1857 when Mutiny taken place. That year the sepoys ( mostly Indians) employed in British-India forces rose against their own authority. arms and ammunition of the authority was used against the authority. To ensure such type of mutiny not repeated again, Lord Curzon (1899-1904) adopted a rule where the Indian soldiers and people will not be able to supply each other with their extra ammunition.
Enjoyed going through the threads put forward by the gyanis.

Dear waqar,

i do hope you are just being polite and being new here, might be a bit naive.
a question need be asked only once and similarly thanks too.

again despite the various answers, you again ask questions about "deadly", npb and pb and also thanking every second post.

while its good to be polite, sometimes repeating the same thing again and again may be taken as trolling.

If you still dont understand, i have a few questions for you, which is more deadly, a rampuri used by dadas in hindimovies in the 70's or the knife used by rambo?

Which is more deadly, a lathi used by police or a lathh used by heroes in hindi movie fights.

Which is more deadly, dharmendras mukka or sunny's dhai kilo ka haath.

Which is more deadly, bruce lee's kick or rajnikanth's laat?

hope you get your answer.
