My Mishmi Dao

Post by alameinite » Wed Oct 28, 2015 11:04 pm

Hi all,
Recently, I have got these two daos from Arunachal Pradesh, quite old and in battered condition. Still working on the handle and scabbards. As of now only a quick glimpse at the Ugly ducklings which ar in the process of a makeover, as I write.
Top two are from Arunachal, last one is my Khukri, just for comparision. Top most is the actual Mishmi dao, sturdier than any other dao that I've ever seen, and middle one, yet to trace it out.
Regards

Neat looking blades! Looking forward to see how they turn out.
Just out of curiosity, what tangs do these two have? Rat tails?

Congrats on these good finds!
Yes, they do need a bit of 'care-taking' ...
Ofcourse - interested to know the 'type of tangs' in each one of them!

Wow man!! Great finds. With a bit of sandpaper and elbow grease, your "ugly ducklings" will moult into beautiful swans.
Cheers!

Briha sir and dear Kshitij,
Both of them are tapered, partial tangs. And the best part is the cost, a total of 850 for both.

Added in 9 minutes 39 seconds:
And my stop is Nagaland now, will be grabbing some Naga daos and if lucky, a pair of Naga spears. So please be ready with comments by next week.

Alameinite, costing only 850 for 2? Must be without grip and sheath. This model of mishmi dao normally have a grip with costly metals and a piece of elephant bone tapped at the end of grip.

Just go ahead brother, but be very careful during transport. Wrap them up in thick cardboard. Also decide if you want a proper traditional dao or slightly modied full utility dao,as a proper Mishmi dao costs 4-5 Dao and the modified one,its your ingenuinity.
