pic of one in my collection

Post by girigoswami » Sun Apr 06, 2014 1:03 am

Hi all senior members

Encouraged by the fellow members, collections, posting a pic of one of the best in my collection. More to follow afterwards. Blade is damascus with Camel bone handle, with little Gold koftagari near the hilt. Non sharpened, 12'' long.

Nice knife. The camel bone appears highly polished

Why do you say its fake? Anyways you can't say he was fooled. You don't know how much he got it for and matter of fact if its really a fake or not.
Its a beautiful piece though.

Undoubtedly, it is an acid etched piece. However, beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder.

Camel bone does not take a 'polish'. The hilt seems to be lacquered.

Enjoy your acquisition GiriGoswami!

That precisely was my point Katana. Just didn't want to sound discouraging to a new member. Having carried home a camel bone handle knife all the way from Africa, at first I thought it was some kind of synthetic.

Thanks to all members who have expressed their opinion.
My understanding was if its a real damascus it would show on the edge of the blade, acid etching would not reflect the pattern over the edge. I may be wrong but pls enlighten.
I do agree with Katana sir about the lacquer, it is evident on the handle.

Nice knife, though I doubt that it's damascus. It looks more like acid etching to me. The handle can well be camel bone, but apparently lacquered.
