some of those knives actually are quite genuine, like Spyderco for example, I heard sourced from the same factory which making real Spyderco

There is a subtle difference between "doing a job for spyderco", and "doing a job for spyderco, and stealing their designs and selling them". Unfortunately, in China, the way patent law and similar things work, it is almost impossible for Spyderco to do anything. Hence, they just ignore it (as told by Sal Glesser, Spyderco's owner).

I am irked by these cheap knock-offs - they are in very poor taste, and badly made. It is very important that the knife you use is trustworthy, and made by a reputed manufacturer. Unfortunately, none of the Chinese stuff is trustworthy, and it also violates basic intellectual property ideas.

What about companies like Cold Steel, Spyderco, Boker etc, offering cheaper options manufactured in China. I recently handled a Cold Steel's throwing knife, was as crappy as the chinese knock off's available at Heera Panna, whereas a syderco tencious I got recently's ina different league, superb build quality, fit and finish, except the steel used was 8Cr13Mov instead of the more exotic ones in the US made Spyderco's.

How are the made in China ones by manufacturers such as Cold Steel, cRKT, Boker etc ?

most of those duplicates are quite poorly made it is true, but same time many Chines companies learned how to make good knives. And they are making millions of knives per month. They do have a Guild of knife makers, certification and a lot of respected masters out there. By having such huge share in market Chines in fact controlling it. Message to western companies quite simple, get your knives made in China or go bankrupt. for end users it is just perfect now you can buy for $100 knife which was on sale for 250.

Most good manufactures produce a large amount of their production knives in China, Brazil, and many other countries.
As long as quality is maintained and the design is a company original its fine. It's very wrong to assume that a $50 Spyderco will be as well built as a $120 Spyderco. But what you can definitely expect is the $50 Spyderco being as good as any other $50 knife produced anywhere in the world including the US. You get what you pay for as long as you stick with reliable brands who are conscientious about quality. Some brands do add a little more due to brand value. Very much like the car market. As long as one understands the metals and materials used, the design/brand value and which segment they are buying from then I don't think you can go too wrong. Maybe tomorrow a company in India may start making great knives with good design and top end materials. Would you spurn that knife just because its not made in the US or Germany or Japan? I think that would be very naive.

major difference which affecting price is a labor cost, materials are the same and knives are absolutely same. you can buy knife made in US and you just pay for costly labor not necessary better knife. I have for few years S30V karambit branded by 5.11 made in Taiwan, only difference is that fasteners are not heat treated, soft steel.
