i will click that ..i was thinking to do it ..these are available on the roadside since years even before ballisong was heard of..the difference is the blade is covered with 2 thick rectangular hollow plates which form the handled after they split open

This Hyderabadi is ordering his, but first a quick combing of the Bombay addas, if I dont find anything there, then I order from Knifecenter.com, btw, anyone know what's going on with that site, it's not really loading on the PC, buts seems to be working fine on my BB??

I have two blaisongs ,but particularly i am not much found if them i mean,very simple to open there lies the excellence ,but somehow i still depend on the SAK locksmith for all my work!

Its just a fancy for me, will feel better after flipping them right without getting my fingers chopped off.

I haven't got them in my hand yet, but had them picked up from a shop in Heera Panna; they're enroute to Glorious Hyderabad as I write this.

Btw, I disagree with sak being har marz ki dawa - I feel they are good at everything, but excel at nothing. To begin with the blade is soft and isn't designed for hard tasks, the tools are difficult to pull out single handed, the screw drivers are useless because not enough torque can be applied due to awkward shape, and they can be difficult to pocket carry without a big bulge . I carry a small leatherman (similar to sak), and itmismfar better in terms of strength than the sak. However, my pocket knife does 99% of the tasks.

Bottom line, I think with rapid availability of specialised tools, saks are declining in their importance and use - they are okay for very light tasks like opening chips packet, or cutting a fruit, or impressing friends. On the last part, your spyderco, benchmade or zt folder will impress them more.

Spyderco makes trainers for smallfly, and they are decent. Also, moins idea of taping the sharp edge is good as well. I used the live blade to train, just being cautious enough always - haven't cut myself till today. On the legality aspect, bail songs, gravity blades, switchblades are banned in the US, and though there may not be anything specific in Indian arms act, I won't be surprised if our customs prohibits them as well (you google for it and the results boldly show banned, who cares which country). It's funny in California - I can own a Bali, but cannot publicly carry it, nor sell it to anyone in the state. I can sell it and buy it online from outside the state however!

okay already, enough with the poor Swiss handyman bashing!

If nothing else, I'm sure the little bulge would have helped some poor soul somewhere :p

I looked up the Leatherman utility knifes, they're good, am going to order one for my nephew who lives in the Yemricas, he just turned 18 and all.

Btw, what pocket knife is it that does most of your work, you shouldnt leave the public all curious now, should you?

Anyway, coming back to the subject of the thread, here's the picture of the balisong I finally received this afternoon.
Seems like one of them is a "Benchmark", or is it?

The other one, I taped up the sharp edge as per Sensai Moin's idea, and am using it as a "trainer"
Its a bit heavy on the handle ends though, or maybe I'm just too noob.

Looks like a benchmade (copy), unless you got it from a reputed benchmade dealer. If it was anything under $200, it is most likely a copy. However, you should get a quality bailsong - the tolerances are very imp on this on, especially sincemitmgets flipped.

Are benchmade knives worth the money?

The silver balisong has broken in 2 and a half pieces already.

The "benchmade" is still going strong.

I really intend on getting a good one, but knifecenter doesn't list them anymore I think (and even if they did, the extra shipping costs hurt the feeling of my beloved pocket), and there's no reliable place which I know of here in India to buy from. Everybody I know who're returning from the US is too chicken to carry a knife along, ordered a trainer from amazon & had it delivered to my US citizen cousin who was coming to India, and he dumped it coz it had "knife" written on the toy.

Paranoid people, the Yemricans, sigh.

Yes more than any production knife in that price range and category. IMHO better build quality than Spydercos.
