This is a Buck 119 Special with a cocobola handle.I have a regular 119 Special with a black handle but can't seem to find it right now.

The only two knives I own.Would love to get one with a sambar grip(if permitted to import).I am visiting Dubai next month so hope to get one soon.

Any recommendations?

Here is my small and junk collection

One supposedly antique piece, a buck, a buck copy, a Black Canary multi, Two 'breakable' show pieces, and two long ones from Punjab

Have not maintained them for long, and would love to hear advices on getting them back in good shape - especially the long ones

0000 grade wire wool and oil to start with.

OK... Do I need to soak it with oil and keep it in the sun or something?
And which oil is recommended. I have coconut oil, Singer 3-in-1 oil, or should I use something else?

Thats a nice Khanjarli at the top Anand! The tip looks broken off, is it an old one or a recent reproduction? Would love to see a closeup if its an old one. Been looking for one of these for some time

The straight blade one is called a kirch and the other is a kirpan.Both are,obviously meant for ceremonial use.The blades would be plated and blunt.You can use 000 wool and oil as lubricant to remove the rust.Brake oil can also take off rust as can kerosene.

Talking of 000 wool,does any one know where to get it in India?Would scotch brite substitute for 000 steel wool.Can 3M wet or dry sandpaper no. 2000 be ok to use in it's place?

I have been having it with me since I remember. I guess it was part of my father's/grandfather's collection (as if they had one) in their Mysorean house. It may have come from the north, since my grandfather was an advocate in Delhi.
Eitherway, all I can vouch for is that it is atleast a couple of decades old, when I got it for myself as a kid. I am unsure how authentic this is.

Thanks for the words SSS. Now, I atleast know what I have. These two, I got it from the shops a the Golden temple, when I visited the shrine during the NSCC at Phillaur. Wonderful place

Anand, you are welcome. It may very well be an old blade, that is why i wanted to see a close up(thanks) in case it may be wootz. The blade seems to be darkened and pitted so any wootz pattern if present would not be visible. I would just lightly rub it with Singer machine oil or any good gun oil with a soft fine cloth if any fresh red rust is present. Do not try to remove the old patina or the pitting.Do not use any acidic product to clean it.Store it with a good coat of machine oil or even Vaseline white petroleum jelly for long term storage.

I have yet to find 000 or 0000 grade wire wool in India. Green Scotchbrite pads are far too abrasive and should not be used for light rubbing.

3M 2000 grit paper may work. I will send you some 0000 grade wire wool by post. Yaj, would you need any? Let me know what it is required for so that I can send you the appropriate quantity.

Actually I have never used the stuff Mack The Knife. What would the sandpaper equivalent be? I think I have gone upto 1500 grit sandpaper while polishing some of my blades, nothing above that.

Well, it actually looks like a dragon's head on one side, with a peacock head on the other. Its more like the dragon about to eat the peacock
