Re: Importing airguns into India

Post by David » Thu Mar 15, 2012 5:53 am

I made and order from Pyramid air for my friend who is in TN ( Tamil Nadu ) on 27 Feb, Reached Delhi on 29 , Released from Customs on 5th March, Reached home safer on 13th March. The Major delay was with Fedex Transit from Delhi to TN..
One thing still not clear is Customs charged 3000+ INR for which I dont have any clarity till now. Waiting for an update from my friend. Otherwise its smooth.

I received my Hammerli air rifle after about 121 days of wait.
Supreme court OKed on 5th Jan.
Delhi High Court and Customs took a whole month to realize this, and OKed on 5th Feb.
FedEx took another 21 days to realize this and sent mine for clearance on 26th Feb (Date of landing was 14th Nov 2011)
I finally received it, after about a hundred emails, countless calls, etc, on the 4th March! (They even charged me 7500/-) for 'Warehouse charges'. A FedEx person said I should send a legal notice to get a reimbursement if I wanted to drag them to court on their delay in following the reverted rule. However, to get back about 3 weeks' warehouse charges, I need to spend twice that! Shame!
The way the delivery guy put the parcel down in front of the gate was proof enough that FedEx's boasting of International standards was just as corrupt as a neta-lie!
The rifle has several bruises, scratches and a shattered rear sight, thus successfully destroying my much awaited 'New Gun' experience.

Thank You FedEx, for making me realize I am in India and have to live a life with such short-comings and unprofessional service! Blokes like you make life hell for everyone. If the same had happened else, dragging Delhi High Court under a contempt of Supreme Court case, an RTI soliciting an apology and damage charges against Customs, as well as bringing FedEx to 'sincerely' apologize for their pathetic service, would all be reasonable. But given the fact that official favors, bribes and 'good office' works best in India, those on the right path can only crib and post about it.... to be read and forgotten soon!

Ayways... ribaalber ... to answer your question in simple words - I got mine finally released from Delhi :-)

TenX
But you are not from Delhi, right?
I am specifically worried about Delhi address..
Maybe it doesn't matter though..
I assume the process must be the same..
As long as Delhi Customs clears to fedex..

Did you send a your documents to the customs or fedex?

Hey there!

I wanted to ask what should be the max fps of a .177 air rifle to pass the wood test.

Thanks

On an average a .177 pellet weighing 7 grains and shooting more than 500 FPS will fail the deal wood test .

Probably it is in some old version of pdf format and your newer version of pdf reader is not able read it. Either try opening with some old version of pdf reader or open in some pdf editor and save it in the latest pdf format. Or may PM mundaire to see if he can replace that file with one in the latest pdf format.

But I think that notification(which you are not able to open in your pdf reader) has been further amended by another notification mentioned in this thread http://indiansforguns.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=16532

I've read the notification regarding the airguns and that it requires membership of a club/association but what abt those who want to do some backyard-plinking at home and the membership costs are just extra burden? Are the parcels delivered at home(specifically FedEx, pyramidair) or are we required to submit a copy of the documents for this purpose? Can anyone please clarify whether the new ruling is being strictly enforced or not?

Himanshu,

Anyone can order, but clearance without duty is only for club members. If you dont have a club membership, dont go in for import. It will attract a lot of questions, delay and duty.
Importing or placing an order needs no paper to begin with. Go online and order. Once you have imported and it and it lands in India, the courier chaps will mail you asking for club membership docs, etc etc. After you send it, the clearing agents in the courier's office, will have it cleared by customs. After clearance, it will be sent to your home.

Hope this helps.
