Ordered scope from China

Post by G.P.Swamy » Mon Apr 03, 2017 8:42 pm

Hi I had ordered rifle scope in Ali Express, Since I'm from Tamil nadu I thought parcel will come directly to Chennai airport for customs clearance. But tracking details shows next office as kolkata airport sorting office, and I'm already aware through our IFG forum about difficulties in releasing of parcel by kolkata customs.

And my query is all about customs clearance will start in Kolkata airport or parcel will be forward to Chennai airport customs for clearance.

My tracking as follows

Local Date and Time Country Location Event Type Mail Category Next Office Extra Information
3/29/2017 9:01:00 PM China Receive item from customer (Otb) Air KOLKATA AIRPORT SORTING OFFICE
4/3/2017 12:43:00 PM China BEIJING Insert item into bag (Otb) Air KOLKATA AIRPORT SORTING OFFICE
4/4/2017 4:30:00 PM China BEIJING Send item abroad (EDI-received) Air KOLKATA AIRPORT SORTING OFFICE

If cleared by Kolkata customs, it will reach Anna Road Post Office (GPO), and from there to your local post office. That's how a lot of stuff from Aliexpress have reached my place (Villivakkam). Have never imported riflescopes though. Port of entry is either Mumbai or Kolkata if destination is Chennai. Problem is with Kolkata customs. A number of our IFG members have had their scopes detained and notices served by the Kolkata customs authorities. You are lucky if yours gets through.
Best,
Ebenezer

If the price of the scope is below Rs2000/-, there is high possibility that u shall get ur scope delivered @ ur place. If it exceeds 2k, chance is limited. This is my experience with kolkata custom. Best of luck.

Carry the memo , bank remittance and the invoice with you and meet the apprising Clark/officer.
Plead that it does not come under the perview of DGFT as it is not a commercial import.
Restriction comes under commercial import only.
They may threat you falsely by telling that your import will attract penal measure as per Arms Act.
Say...This is a scope only...Not arm or ammunition. :D
Try to manage him as much as you can...Then wait for your luck

Respected officer,

Requesting your update on the next step. I did not see any reply to my request.
- Kindly share me the notification under which this was confiscated to have a better understanding ?
- Kindly advise the customs process of what will happen to this product if not released ?
- Kindly advise what is the process to send it back to the supplier . Any ref document to deal with.?

Thanks
David

Hi guys, my friend bought a Discovery Riflescope from AliExpress. It was delivered to him without any problem. He just had to pay the shipping charges for India Post.
