Next step after Passing new law (licensing of .22 Airrifle)

Post by rraju2805 » Fri Sep 02, 2016 10:00 am

I have two .22 Airrifle , If new gun law is passed, what will be the compatible next step for .22 Air-rifle ?
I don't think government will issue license for .22 Air-rifle Because we have no suitable reason for applying license of .22 Air-rifle .
thanx in advance

Dear rraju2805,

I understand your concern but when the order becomes a Law, then you will have to apply and register for a licence for the two .22 air rifles you have. There is no choice for a Law abiding citizen.
Once a Law is enacted then reasons are not discussed, discussions on reason can only be done before and not after.
I hope that clarifies...

I have tried to surrender my air rifle (precihole nx100 in .22) to nearest police station. Ther were happy to take it but refuse to give any receaving. So i bring it back. Why to donate my gun to police officer for his personal use. They have no clue what to be done with .22 air guns.

even police need licence for .22 airguns. do not be hasty in giving away your airguns, wait til the last moment as things may change.

Dear Maru,
Why are you in so much of haste ?
I find GNV also intending to throw guns into river Godavari.....
I have two ARs as well....and decided to wait till last scene.
Here , after a little pause , shops have started selling again.

The law is not passed yet. It is still to be introduced in parliament for voting and will need majority approval to become law.

The new law will affect air gun sales. It will force airgun stores around the country to close down. It will force manufacturers to wind up production. It will render those people connected with the airgun industry - jobless. That's why the bill may not pass in the parliament.

Wait for updates

I think, if the law was made, then there should be the option of replacing the barrel of .22 with .177 . This could be an effective solution for all the plinkers having many .22 air rifles with them. The matter clearly deals with only the caliber and ofcourse with 15fpe (even the best .22 rifles cant reaching the 15fpe).Hence if the manufacturers are ready to supply a spare barrel assembly of .177, then the matter seems resolved.
With regards,
vsraja

Hi All,

I was keen on shooting from long time, today only I purchased an AK Agni500 and 4 box pellets and a carrybag for 6270/- from Kochi. The shop keeper gave a 15%discount.But when I go through your posts,am also worried.

If this stupid law is indeed passed, finding a .177 barrel will be the first option. Hopefully the manufacturers understand and distribute .177 barrels of the popular models. I think there are hardly 20 indian rifles which are distributed across the nation. The last thing I want to do is weather proof my rifle and send it to sleep in some bunker somewhere.

There could be close to a lakh .22 air rifle owners in the country. I recently found out that an old uncle of mine owned one in the 60s. Is the govt ready to buy them all as compensation?

i contacted precihole and they said that .22 can not be converted to .177. i currently have two air guns in .22 , gd-600 & scorpius. what are you guys doing now? i dont want kolkata police to come to my home , confiscate my air rifles, send me to a correctional home ,, & wait for 10 years while cid, cbi , and the forensic scientists confirm that my rifle was not producing 15 ft - lbs and was not used for terrorist attacks. i also dont think new licenses are going to be given to the old .22 cal pellet rifle holders.
i think i might have to throw them into the ganges after all.
