Perhaps a naive question, but may I know what license you had to carry with the air pistols? And when you say "exemption", are you talking about the exemption for recognized shooters/club members?

Just got a crosman stinger (.177) in my checked-in luggage safe from US. Apparently the authority in Dubai (stop-over) relayed the 'presence of a firearm message' to the custom officers in mumbai. Upon arrival I was asked to head straight to the customs PRO, who had both of my checked in bags with him! I spent 20 mins explaining to a team of 7, how this a plastic air pistol and was far from being lethal or dangerous. Fortunately, they 'toyed' around with it and let me go! I also carried the invoice, but wasn't asked for it.

Any idea where in Mumbai can i get bb pellets (plastic)??? Should i give crawford market a try?

Keep in mind that airsoft (plastic) BB's are 6mm and will not fit a .177 air gun.
As far as I know, the Crosman Stinger is not an air pistol in (.177/4.5mm) but an airsoft pistol firing 6mm plastic pellets.

6mm bb's are available on relishsports.com .... takes a max of a week to be delivered

Going through the posts I've realized most members here have imported only .22/.177 cal airguns. Would it be the same if airguns of larger calibers (say .50 cal) were brought in through the personal baggage route?

AFAIK only 0.177(4.5mm) is allowed.Read more about wood test and notification of exemptions.

hi All, would like to share my experience on brining a replica gun via checked in baggage with Emirates.

i flew from prague to chennai Via Dubai on emirates, i bought an toy gun(revolver) in prague which cannot fire anything as it is only a toy(marked - for 3+ yrs only on the pack ) and it just makes a small noise. it looks so real i bought it and put in checkin baggage, had no issues in prague airport.

once i reached dubai i was not allowed to board flight to chennai at dubai airport, and i was escorted by airport police to check in baggage storage area outside the terminal and asked to open the check in baggage , once they found out that it is just a toy by looking at the box they did not even open it and said i can keep it.

but by the time i was back i missed my flight, and emirates was so unfriendly said they are not responsible and took almost 2 hrs to booked me the next day flight. Even though i said it was not my problem and they should give me accommodation, they said it was airport police which caused the delay in checking and i got only a complementary breakfast.

it was an horrible experience to stay in airport for 13 hrs to catch my next flight ,i was totally exhausted.. but strangely when i landed in chennai the customs did not even notice and i was out with model.

Dubai airport is not so friendly when it comes to checking your baggage on time and getting your boarded... overall i dont recommend even to travel with a model pistol leave alone an air pistol when travelling via dubai..

The Line " However, Import of 0.177 bore air guns and air pistols will be free for shooters registered with Rifle Clubs or District/State/National Rifle Association" is not present in the amendment. Customs guys may hang on to it and not allow import of .177 cal.
Though we can argue that it only amends the part concerning "“Import of arms (including parts thereof) & ammunition is permitted freely to the following sports persons/sports bodies:"

What does valid “user licence” mean. Will a letter from the state/dist/national rifle club suffice.?
