Dear all,

I am also in search of a scuba tank for my AP since my air pump has been stuck in repairs. I checked on India Mart and it returns quite a few "dealers" related to scuba tank or breathing appratus. Not all fulfill our criterion. beng located in Mumbai that's the place option I chose though I got pointers for Delhi-, Kolkata-, Vishakhapatnam- based dealers too. Now coming to point -

One of the manufacturers has quoted me price for 6ltr SS 200 bar at 15K plus 25% (ED & VAT) taxes (plus 5.5% Mumbai Octroi) & 16K for 300 bar plus the same tax structure. Also 32K for carbon fibre plus VAT. Brand new pieces.

I have also touched base with two other SOMU based Marine dealers and they have yet to respond. I do not have any lead for used SCUBA bottles. So looking forward to trajeev's response. Have to close out fast as prax has been suffering for a long time. When the pump will be operational it will be but for now have to think COB.

PS: BTW appending to my earlier message - the name of the emanufacturer of SCBA tank in Mumbai is "JLD" - Joseph Leslie - think they have marketing offices in the West (MH, GJ) as well as East (WB). Details on their website.

Dear all,

A brief update from my side for benefit of all -

India Mart had thrown up a few dealers out of which I touched base with two - Unique & SR Marine both having advertised as dealers of said equipment.
Got in touch through information as returned by India Mart.
1. Zainab Malek @Unique - 9643336263 - SMSed & Emailed. Reverted with "How many?" Upon my reply "One" - no further communication
2. Shiva @SR Marine - 9899540605 - SMSed. No return communication whatsoever

So having given them sufficient time - am striking out these options.

3. Got in touch with a Mumbai manufacturer - Joseph Leslie Dynamiks. Great communication. Got good quotations for 200 bar SS steel (15K + 25% Taxes +5.5% Mumbai Octroi), 300 bar SS steel (16K + 25% Taxes +5.5% Mumbai Octroi) and 300 bar Carbon Fibre 48K Net - ALL NEW. While I have as of now have not shut out this option, I am steering towards trajeev's pointer Shri. Abhijit who has quoted Rs. 11450 for Steel (MS, not SS) REFURBSHED bottle but with hydro-stretch testing certificate of 5 yr.

4. Have a counter and equally sweet quote for 8K for steel bottle but WITHOUT testing certificate. from a person. The problem ? NO TEST NO CERTIFICATE - hence refraining from publicly mentioning him or his contact. So the big Qn is does anyone know of anyone in MMR who does Hydrostretched testing for an SCBA cylinder ?

This information is for those who wish to investigate further for their SCBA needs. All bottles mentioned above are 6lt capacity and unless specified otherwise 300bar. Good Luck.

Hi airgun_novice,
I could not find any SCBA bottle in SS. My google search shows all water bottles/Thermos in Stainless Steel. Do you have any idea who manufactures SS SCBA bottles ? What is your latest info ?

Dear trajeev ET AL,

During chat with a friend he mentioned that SS SCUBA were preferred during undersea and extreme coastal places. Hence the misinformation. Later turned out what he had seen were in fact polished Aluminium tanks - hence I stand corrected. Please note my edited scratched out "SS". My search also yielded SS in water bottles and mighty expensive ones them too. :D

BTW, I finally got mine - 6 ltr @200 bar refurbished - thanks to a surprise meeting with a friend, for considerable less amount. Last tested in 2013. Hydro test to be done later. Got it visual inspected by immersing in a tank of water. Currently it's been filled to just under 200 bar. I have oil painted it after sanding rust off it.

PS: A word of caution (which was passed to me and hence faithfully passed on) to the un-initiated -
DO NOT FILL SCBA BOTTLES TO ABOVE 200 BAR (THAT IS SAY 250/ 300 BAR) EVEN IF IT HAS THE CAPACITY, IF YOU ARE USING IT TO FILL RESERVOIRS OF SAY COMPETITION PCP GUNS WHICH TYPICALLY OPERATE AT <=200 BAR AS THAT WOULD KNOCK SAFETY SEALS OFF.

I think, you are misinformed airgun_novice. You can fill your gun as per its rated capacity. Majority shooters use 300 Bar bottle for their competition Rifles/Pistols. It holds more usable air.So actually you get more fills with a higher rated bottle.

OK hmm. Come to think of it - My 200 bar bottle also had a "300" marking on it. But prefilled at about 200 bar. Plus with the DRS pump as an alternate option, ought to do fine over next few years. BTW is there any difference in the DIN adaptors for 200 v/s 300 bar bottles ? 200 bar ones have female connectors/ adaptors with ID of about 0.75".

@Josh - I think Paintball SCBA operate at considerable lower pressure than even 200 bar. Though their bottles may be build to higher tolerances, their seals may not. So please be careful in case you decide to consider them for your PCP needs.

DIN valves are used for the Bottles having service pressure more than 3000 psi,i.e 214 Bar approx. 200 Bar Bottles come with either K valve or DIN valve. According to me,there is no difference between 200 v/s 300 Bar DIN valves.

Recently I bought a used 6 lit 300 bar SCBA bottle in steel from a Mumbai based Dealer who got it Hydrotested & certified on my name.A DIN charging kit from PCP Tunes made my charging jig complete.

Hii Trajeev ..Can u share the details of the dealer & how much u got for?

Did you buy one from them Josh? Their website says ''minimum order quantity 2nos''. I think,Vat is applicable on product, not the service. When I bought my tank, couple of my Merchant Navy friends advised me to avoid re-painted one.

Wherer can i fill up a 300 bar 6 litre cylinder in Sagar,MP or nearabouts. shall be grateful for inputs. The cylinder seller has asked me to look for a baeur type compressor. I also have my doubts whether a steel scuba can generate a working pressure beyond about 200 bars
