16 January 2015.
Little Sherni's first birthday.
Last year same time I was returning from an unsuccessful maneating tigress hunt.
Corbett 99 and I had just sat down with our first glass of scotch as our kids played. When I got a call from a forest officer.
A 10 year old boy in the outskirts of Dehradun had been picked up by a leopard. There was a pool of blood about a 100 yards away but nothing else.
The boy Krishan had just finished his dinner and come out of his hut to wash his hands . When a leopard came in from behind and attacked in full view of the family. Before the family could react. The boy was dead. By the time they came out. The animal had vanished in the thick undergrowth without a clue.
I picked up my 3006 rifle and handed my 12 bore dbbl gun to C99.
I called up Zaheer (who lives walking distance from my place). He left immediately and was at my place within minutes with his 12 bore db gun.
We jumped into the jeep and were on our way.

Two months ago a 70 year old woman who had gone to the jungles to collect fodder had been killed by a leopard in the same area.
That time the Department had payed the exgratia of Rs 3 lacs and rightly not declared the animal a maneater.
But this time there was no doubt that it was the work of a maneater.

Hi,

Eagerly waiting for the complete hunting account..... In the very own words of Jim Corbet, "A leopard when turns into a man-eater is very difficult to hunt, much more difficult than a man-eating Tiger".
