Thats the stag you are talking about shooter. Well I had planned to shoot a 12 pointer but somehow the guy who we were booked with got busy at the last minute.So we went to this other gent who said he was already booked for a driven shoot. We started really early at around 3 am and reached the estate at dawn. Our man said he could spare just about a couple of hours for us and the hunt began immediately.
Shooter was dropped at a high seat and the two of us went stalking. There was a 10 pointer of the estate but getting any stag within a couple of hours itself was a challenge.
Specially when shooter had told me that he got his first red stag on his third stalk.
I had little time and didnt have much hope.
We drove for about 15 minutes and my guide saw some movement in the horizon. He could see some doe through his binocs.
We started moving in the direction taking cover along the wooded area.
It was a cold morning but shooters boots were just the right thing place.
Enroute we saw a chinese water buck which looks a lot like our musk deer and two kaakar (barking deer). But I could only think of the red stag for now.
We got to about a 100 yards and I was ready to take a shot. The herd was at the edge of the forest feasting on the tender grass in the medow.
There were about 6 does and a single spiker.
"You might as well take the spiker.You have little time." My guide told me.
Shikar by change.
I got my first stag within an hour. Shot through the heart and lungs.
When we got back to the farm the hunters who had booked for the driven hunt had already arrived.
Our man, in a hurry put the first incision a little too deep and splash came all the blood, intestinal fluids, stomach contents etc etc.
He was in a bad state and I am glad shooter and I were quite a distance away.

That's a great looking hunting experience, Shooter! Those lodges and houses are nice! The hunting grounds look good, as well. Being able to do that would be a very memorable hunt.

to Jim Corbett, Fred Bear, Malissa Bachman, Jim Shokey and Beasely Brothers, nothing happened !

First of all congrats to your daughter on bagging the buck and for beating Dad on filling her tag.
Well, at least you wont have to contemplate going vegetarian, at least for this winter

Its traditional wear and most places frown upon shooters not wearing one. (I do sometimes have worn scarves or cravats with a modicum of social success)
