The restrictions are two fold . The first is on the length of the blade 4 inches and overall length of the knife should be within 9 inches
Second it cannot be spring loaded , assisted , automatic , push button etc .

Also please be aware that sometimes these are completely subjective to the person with authority and it’s always better to err on the side of caution

No one is checking your knives, and even if they do , most of the cops wont know that rule. Also button actuated knives are widely sold on flipkart. Its completely your call that do you want that. I prefer fixed blade. Also folding knife without button is difficult to use in a defensive scenario.

Carrying a knife of (1) some particular specs in (2) a public place falls prohibited under a notification issued by a State Government under section 3 of the Arms Act .

Most of the states , via the same notifications, have specified "spring actuated" knives as prohibited ( in a public place ofcourse) . By spring actuated is meant a knife that opens by one simple press of a button. It follows that a knife that opens and closes it's blade, entirely by the power of the fingers of the person carrying it, is not a spring actuated knife .

Please note that different State Government have included different blade and overall sizes of knives in their notifications . In MP, a blade longer than six inches OR wider than two inches renders a knife prohibited .

Above statements pertain to legal position on the book . Practical part has been well alluded by forum members previously .
