One can look at the Caucasian sheep dog ... Only and only if you absolutely positively have had experience with breeds like Rottweilers, Dobermans , GSD'S. etc.. And must have a proper guard dog.

Didn't see it mentioned on the Wikipedia link I saw... I have seen some fine examples of these dogs up close and personal ... Soft is a word that is not even remotely connected with this breed... Handling has to be strict and careful or else this dog can be a menace and by menace I mean real menace and not the Rottweiler /Doberman gone bad menace...for this my friend is a dog that has been known to hunt bear . Has the stopping power of a .45 .

I regularly come across Caucasian Shepherd Dogs in Tbilisi. Absolutely impressive beasts. Huge dogs and for all their reputation for being fearsome guard dogs you can see them being led by fragile old men who weigh half of their canine companions. Let that not deceive you. They are natural guardians who are aware of their strength and not afraid of a confrontation.

People are prone to exaggeration but these dogs are something you have not seen in flesh.

As far as I know,they are native to Georgia/Caucasus. A close relative is the Turkish Kangal. I do not believe they were mix-bred by humans.

They come in two versions, the long haired Caucasian Shepherd and the short haired Georgian Mountain Dog.

@ Vikram I've seen these in Dubai and were brought in from Uzbekistan by a member of the royal family, he infact now has about 30 +of them. Superb dogs ..Btw breeders have got them here in India now ...

Very... I just saw the entire documentary in Georgian or Russian.. Nice very nice and may have to request you to get some authentic pure bred ones from Georgia

No problem! Even here, counterfeit pups are sold.
