The TV presenter and Marks & Spencer model Myleene Klass has been warned by police for waving a knife at teenagers who were peering into a window of her house late at night.

Klass was in the kitchen with her daughter upstairs when she spotted the youths in her garden just after midnight on Friday. She grabbed a knife and banged the windows before they ran away.

Hertfordshire police warned her she should not have used a knife to scare off the youths because carrying an "offensive weapon", even in her own home, was illegal.

Klass's spokesman, Jonathan Shalit, said the former Hear'Say singer was "utterly terrified" by the intruders and "aghast" at the police warning. "All she did was scream loudly and wave the knife to try and frighten them off," he told the Sunday Telegraph. "She is not looking to be a vigilante, and has the utmost respect for the law, but when the police explained to her that even if you're at home alone and you have an intruder, you are not allowed to protect yourself, she was bemused."

The warning issued to the model comes after a pledge by the Conservative party last month that they would make it more difficult for people who tackle burglars to be prosecuted.

The shadow home secretary, Chris Grayling, spoke out after Munir Hussain was jailed for beating a man who tied up his family in their home. He and his brother used a cricket bat to beat one of the intruders, who was left with a permanent brain injury.

A spokeswoman for Hertfordshire police said no reference was made in the Klass incident report about a weapon. She said the incident was being treated as trespass and "words of advice were given in relation to ensuring suspicious behaviour is reported immediately".

Klass, whose fiance, Graham Quinn, was away on business at the time of the scare, plans to step up security at the property, near Potters Bar.

Can you believe it!!!

Better still can you beat that?

No, my mind goes blank when faced with such stupidity, probably they will also prosecute home owners with watch dogs, burglar alarms, why even fences. Man you need to take care of humans, not the owners, the burglars and intruders, should'nt do anything to disturb their peace of mind eh?
Small wonder that the crime rates are going up. I can understand crime rates going up in this country, where those in uniform are in cahoots with the those with stripes. But in England? :deadhorse:

Jeff Cooper advocated four basic rules of gun safety:
1) All guns are always loaded. Even if they are not, treat them as if they are.
2) Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
3) Keep your finger off the trigger till your sights are on the target.
4) Identify your target, and what is behind it.

There's a reason why Great Britain is now the most violent country in Europe--even more violent than the Balkans. And why London streets are now more violent than the streets of New York City. You can check the FBI statistics and read the American articles. Every time civilian rights to carry firearms and to defend themselves are expanded, violent crime drops dramatically.

People think the U.S. is violent. However, if you analyze the country by counties--and there are thousands of them, 4% of the counties account for 80% of the violent crime. These counties, for example, would be Cook County (Chicago--handgun ban), Los Angeles County--CCW very hard to get, Washington D.C.--CCW illegal. However, in the year since Washington D.C.'s handgun ban has been lifted, violent crime has dropped 25%.

These facts can be used to support your desire for reasonable self-defence laws. When your police and politicians claim that blood will run in the streets, tell them to prove it. They will not be able to.

Suggestions that have worked in Canada:

1. Use this site to coordinate letter writing to newspapers, politicians, etc. The letters to the editor page is always the most popular page in any newspaper. Any time an anti-gun letter is posted, post it on this site in a gun politics section. I notice that this site doesn't have such a section. I suggest that you start one.

2. Any time a politician or minion (police chief, for example) makes an anti-gun statement, use the media--letters or email--to challenge the person to give facts. Of course, he or she will not be able to, because no legitimate statistics exist that show gun control does anything constructive.

3. I'll bet you have talk radio shows in India. If so, cultivate some well-spoken gun advocates to speak on your behalf. Study up for phone call-in debates with anti-gun guests.

4. Organize at the political grassroots. In each of your electoral districts, do a grassroots organizing of gun owners. Gun owners should let themselves be known. And, let it be known that gun owners will support and work for the candidate who supports gun rights. You may also have to work for someone who is neutral so that you can work against a politician who is against gun rights. Once some politicians understand they they have lost because of the actions of gun owners, many politicians will suddenly change their philosophies.

5. Start an NRA-type lobby organization at the level that makes gun laws--state, national, or both.

We know this because we organized in Canada and beat a total handgun ban by a whisker. We are now in the process of overturning the federal long-gun registry.

If I think of anything else, I'll let you know.

torontofan,
that's good news from canada, and good advice to our indian friends. you might also want to point to vermont and our consistently very low crime rate in a state bordering your country. as i'm sure you are aware we have no "firearms licencing" of any sort for private citizens, licenses are not issued or required for possession or carry, openly or concealed, and we live in reasonable peace and safety only a comparitive few miles from canada and its politicians who have saddled canadians with unduly restrictive "gun control" laws, which only affect the law-abiding canadian citizen, while bothering criminals hardly at all, as they get their guns illegally or choose other equally deadly weapons to continue their crimes. good luck neighbor, in your fight to regain the freedom we still enjoy here.
